Windows 10: Default View

  1.    19 May 2018 #1

    Default View

    W10, Office 2016.
Although I close my docs and folders in 'Large icons', they often open in List view, which I never want; I almost always want Large icon view.
I have been down the recommended File Explorer/any folder////apply to folders etc. route, but this hasn't changed anything.
I seem to remember reading that this sequence doesn't work with Libraries, which I think Documents is.
    I would appreciate advice, thanks.

Set the view in File Explorer as you desire then click View on the ribbon, click Options icon, click the View Tab then click the Apply to Folders button, accept the following prompts. The file managers in many programs take their lead from File Explorer [and the older Windows Explorer and even older File Manager] although not all settings will be the same.

I followed your advice and found the 'Apply to folders' button greyed out , also greyed was the 'Apply' at the bottom of the panel. (in my previous attempts I have always found this button greyed).
Perhaps my previous attempts were sucessful?
In the past the type of view that has come up has been unprecictable - sometimes List and sometimes the icons that I left it as, and wanted again.
I will carry on for a day or three to see if the unwanted view comes up again.
    Thanks again, fingers crossed

I use this to force Explorer to remember views.

I apply this tweak in CMD:
    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags" /f
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell" /v "FolderType" /t REG_SZ /d "NotSpecified" /f
Then open Explorer and as above: View - Options - View - Apply to Folders - OK - Close Explorer ASAP

I am sorry to say that the last suggestion was way above my head, but thanks for the reply.
Over the past three days or so I have tried more than once to make my folders open in Icon view - the same as when they were closed.
It hasn't worked; the opening is unpredictable, as it has been since I bought this W10 P.C., so I must just put up with it and resign myself to doing <right click/view/large icons> regularly.
