Should Windows time be set to manual or automatic?

Some say manual while others say automatic. Which is preferable

    Hello Redbatman, :)

What is preferable is what you prefer and works for you.

Personally, I prefer automatic. It just depends on if the time stays correct with automatic or not.

I prefer automatic. You should set yours to whatever you prefer.

I may have phrased my question wrong. When I said manual or automatic I meant from services.msc for Windows Time. (W32Time)

I've never changed that one, and mine says Automatic too (I've just looked)...

...which is odd, as apparently both @Brink's tutorial and Black Viper say that Microsoft's default is Manual.

    Hello Bree, :)

It's for the Set time automatically setting in Option One below instead.

OK, so changing the 'set time automatically' toggle in Settings modifies the W32time start up type in Services. That would make sense.

So as an experiment I turned off 'set time automatically' in Settings then looked in Services.
Result: Startup = Disabled, Service status = Stopped.

Then I turned it back on: Startup = Manual (Triggered start), Service status = Running.

Now I'm really puzzled, where/when/how did I get it set as Automatic?
