I would go with the Lattitude 3330 as it will be lighter and easier to carry from class to class.

The Latitude may be more oriented toward a business use while the Inspiron toward consumers. I have a Latitude E6410 14" and a couple Inspiron 15 [15"], they are maxed out on RAM and they perform similarly for what I need but may not fit with what others want to do. Most Notebooks do nearly everything but Desktops can be more customizable to the user's needs.

The Inspiron series are home laptops. Home laptops are crap. Cheaply made, easily broken, not worth buying. Not ever. Crap crap crap.

The Latitude series are business laptops. They're built much better. They last longer. Much much much better. Spend the money on good stuff, not crap stuff.

You need not restrict yourself to Dell. There are other makes. But you really ought to restrict yourself to the business-class laptops, regardless of make.

I have a Latitude. They are designed to be user servicable. They come apart with relative ease, making component replacement easy.
