Guess I fouled things up, let me try over again.
I got my bookmarks in a desktop icon (was I supposed to do something with "hidden files" first?)
Now uninstall chrome and the "leftovers"? You mean the "folders" it mentions in step 3?
I cant find any box "Show hidden files folders and drives" in control panel/file explorer options. Can only even get 'file explorer' if I put it in the cortana search box, it's not under control panel like it says under step 2. Why are so many things different from the instructions Im trying to figure out??
edit: made things a bit worse after that uninst/reinst, more areas where Im reading stuff have had the letters get lighter than they were before, very annoying straining to read, having to zoom larger so often because letters are not dark enough.

No need to show hidden files just to export chrome bookmarks. Since I don't use chrome would someone please post screenshots showing how to export bookmarks.
You should be able to export as an .html file
Maybe you have file extensions hidden so you just see an icon. Right click on it and choose "properties" to see what the file extension is.
RE: Control Panel uninstall Chrome. That will never remove it and when reinstalling it will pick up your profile and maybe other remnants during install. It's better to fully remove Chrome using Geek Uninstaller then manually remove any leftovers if found.

I already did the bkmks by the 4 steps in your previous post. Method 2 (export/import) which does not say a thing about "hidden files"....method 1 backup/restore does mention it. ....very confusing. I have a desktop icon for the bookmks (just hope it's not empty, an 'icon' only)
The "How to Completely Uninstall How-To"....about chrome....says to use the control panel....and says to enable hidden files view....and your previous post says 'see step 3'.....but the how-to says the step 2/hidden files thing must be done before doing step 3.....seeing why Im so confused?
So....I think the bookmks are sitting in the desktop icon (...?). Now I'll do the geek uninstaller and try removing chrome....or is there a 'but first'...? Dont understand a thing about 'hidden file extensions' or 'manual removing of leftovers'.

Quite a confusing difference between the google help and w10 tutorial on how to import the bookmarks.
Ok I removed chrome with the geek, it said it was removing some 'extra' stuff, so I guess that meant the 'leftovers'? Then I rebooted and reinstalled chrome via 'Edge' (then made sure chrome was my default browser again). Then I imported the bookmarks, checked, and they are back.
Then, clicked on that link again for the extension thing....clicked on "Add to Chrome"...,and...,same as before, still says error. Damn, how can this be such a problem when I had it before?

Once Geek Uninstaller removed leftovers you need to check here:
- C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome
- C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome
Then manually delete those folders (if found) - the first one contains your chrome profile and if not deleted you would get the same problems as before.
After removal you should reboot before installing chrome again.

So I goofed (again) and have to repeat everything.
How/where do I get my 'user name', it's not what I use for my email name is it?
Do I type that C:\ stuff into the address bar?
(edit: darn, maybe Im doing things backwards. I mentioned earlier about trying a "clean" install of w10 because things dont seem to work well...maybe part of problem here? Tried it once before, followed instructions, but did something wrong, didn't 'take'. Guess that would wipe out this chrome thing. I feel so ridiculous having gone on so long with this)..................
AND............is the W10 clean install something a real non-tech basic user can handle, or is it considered too complicated?

I removed chrome again. Then I put that C:\ stuff into address bar, hit enter, nothing comes up...where did I goof?

<YourUserName>- replace with your username - the account name that you use to log into windows.

I did do it using my user name, I did not put 'your user name'.
