So is that "Clear Type" thing different than that chrome extension thing, or do they both accomplish the same?

Do you mean to say that you have never installed a browser extension (addon) ?

How many computers have you owned/ used? If you are a beginner -no problem.

    You just visit this page:

    then click add to chrome.

    It's part of Windows.

Clear type allows you to make the text on screen in Windows easier to read. You just run the tuner and pick the text that looks best in each section.

The Chrome extension allows you to override text (font) and background color on webpages for:
    1. All sites.
    2. Current page
    3. All Pages

No....I've never installed a browser extension.

Im up in age. Had computers for long time, but never been more than minimal basic user to surf internet, read news. But I've had lots of troubles over the years with things not working well.

Okay well if you follow the tutorial to adjust clear type text then it's just point and click and not at all complicated.

As for the Chrome extension the screenshots show it all really.

If you install the extension you will find it in extensions and there will be an "options" link to click. From there you choose type of font and size. If you want to use on all webpages you just choose font color and background color.

In the toolbar there should be a newly appeared icon that you can click to adjust what happens either globally (all sites) or just on specific sites or pages. You click the same button to get options to restore default view.

I'm not sure that I could give much more meaningful info.

When I go to that link, and click add to chrome, what shows up is different than your before/after.

A screen stays a few seconds, then another one shows, and that keeps repeating. Tried to do this screenshot.
The other is black background Processing...x, bunch of words,

( looked like screenshot worked when I sent this, but.....)

I'm using Vivaldi browser (Chrome variant and chrome extensions work in Vivaldi)

Chrome: It might look slightly different than my screenshots but the options should be the same.

You need to configure settings and apply depending on your preference. Don't worry if you screw it up. You can just remove the extension and add it back to reset it.
