Today I tried an offline sfc scan again. The nice thing is that sfc tells me there are no issues (like the last time I tried) Well I guess I just have to wait for the next update since I don't need the timeline feature and I use another software for virtual desktops where I can actually determine on which virtual desktop a certain program should be started. Not like the built in solution where I have to manually assign the window to the corresponding virtual desktop whenever I start a program.

    Hey altae,
Probably a long shot ... in Windows Services check that Connected Devices Platform Service & Connected Devices Platform User Service are running and startup type is automatic.

Note: I had both CDP Services disabled (it was never clear what they were used for) which caused Task View to crash Explorer and Activity History to crashed Settings ... Setting their startup types back to automatic and rebooting PC fixed both issues.

Thank you, Eagle. You saved me from creating an embarrassing thread titled something like, "I accidentally broke Task View and Activity History settings due to excessive tweaking, and some mild paranoia."

I found the solution and would like to share it with you. The culprit were two auto starting programs I use: Actual Window Menu and Actual Virtual Desktops. If either of these programs starts immediately after logon Task View/ Timeline breaks. But if I delay them for 30 seconds (less would probably also work) everything is back to normal.

Once again one small check mark can make a difference Or the mysterious ways of Windows. Or... you get the point
