Windows 10: Windows 10 Flac Tag Problems in File Explorer with Details Pane

Windows 10 Flac Tag Problems in File Explorer with Details Pane

I don't know if this is just me or not, but it seems like whenever I use the details pane to edit the tags of .flac audio files, File Explorer really starts slow down. I also have this problem whenever I simply highlight .flac audio files in File Explorer. I notice that this only happens whenever the details pane is open, which implies that this is a problem corresponding to how Windows 10 handles the reading of .flac audio file tags.

This is what I mean by "highlight:" Click image for larger version.

Interestingly, this problem does NOT persist with MP3 files, so there must be something fundamentally different about how Windows handles reading the two types of tags.

I am on Windows 10 Home version 10.0.16299 Build 16299 if that helps.

Does anybody else have this issue, or is it just me? If not, what should I do to fix it?

Hi, build 16299.431 (Pro). Tried selecting multiple flacs in the same folder- the only issue I noted was how long the context menu took to appear for those. (That will depend on what context menu additions there are, of course).

In what was does explorer slow down for you? Can you be specific?

    Example: (here only 1 selected)

Note: you may have fewer tag entries available.

There's not much to be specific about; absolutely everything lags for a brief moment; the mouse cursor moves more slowly, I can't click anything for a second, the GUI doesn't update as quickly, etc.

But suddenly I've noticed that it's inconsistent, and I only tend to notice it after I've been working in several folder with .flac files for a while, so honestly I'm not sure anymore.

The main thing to see here is that Windows handles .flac files a lot more slowly than it does .mp3, and I'm sure that anybody can notice this. My point is that it doesn't seem they're handling it properly, but maybe it's just me.
