Move "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from system tray to Hidden Icons

My "Safely Remove Hardware" icon has moved from Hidden Icons to the system tray - to the right of the "Show hIdden icons" icon.

How can I move it back to Hidden Icons?

I don't want to use Shawn Brink's tutorial until I get advice. I might cause conflict between the current setup and the tutorial setup - which might give me a hidden laptop.

First thought is just to right click an empty bit of the taskbar, click 'taskbar settings, and then scroll down the page to 'select which icons appear on the taskbar' and check you haven't got Safely Remove ticked.

The Windows Explorer setting was Off when I entered the dialog. I changed to On.

The Safely Remove icon is still on the taskbar (with an external drive connected), but I want it to be in the Hidden Icons.




Maybe I should try to delete the sys tray icon, and start over again using Shawn Brink's tutorial? If yes - how do I remove the sys tray icon?

Yes. But it didn't work

The reason it didn't work is because after I opened the hidden icons popup, and then moved the mouse at lightning speed to grab the eject icon, the hidden popup always closed too quickly.

I attached a second mouse. But in that case, the mice fight to control a single pointer.

I then tried selecting the icon first, then dragging it to prove that nothing would happen. Wrong again. The icon continued to drag and the popup popped up. Can't lose them all.

BTW: The reverse also works for any icon.

Just tested it on a 1709 pro x64 and it works fine. Drag the icon and hover over the arrow until the hidden icons popup then drag it into it and drop. If you try it the other way by opening the hidden icons popup first then try and jump to the icon you want to drag in, it would never work.

Sometimes you have to turn the setting on and back off again, before the icon disappears into the hidden menu.
