    No Sleep option Windows 10 pro

    I have just installed windows 10 Pro on a new computer and there isn't a sleep option. I have looked in settings under power options - Change settings that are currently unavailable but there is NO option for sleep.

    Any ideas on how to get the sleep button on power options?

    Thanks

    You're probably missing some drivers. Check Device Manager to see if there are any devices with warning symbols.

    I used the intel driver checker and this found a display driver. After I updated this sleep has appeared. Thanks for the pointer

    For the record, sleep issues often come from display or chipset driver issues. Those should be the first two lines of investigation should this type of situation present itself (or recur).

    @Ed is correct.

    When Windows 10 is first installed, it includes a very Basic display adapter driver just to get things working well enough for Windows to run. You always have to run Windows update or install the computer maker's / display card maker's driver to get the display card working as intended, including its sleep functions.
    [[This statement was true of early versions of Windows 10 up to the version that was current in July 2016. Since then I have always proceeded to install the proper display driver straightaway and have not noticed its initial state.]]

    Thanks a million for helping me out with these replies! Thanks to to Ed and polar nettles for pointing me in the right direction. My fix: scan through device manager, and look for "unknown device". On that device(which was my video card) there was no driver. I had it look on the internet for compatible drivers, and it did the rest automatically, downloaded and installed missing drivers. Sleep button functionality came back withing a few seconds.

    Thanks a lot!
