Changing Display Settings Made my Computer Unusuable

Greetings Everybody!

A few days ago, I was ordering something with my Windows 10 Computer Online and the Ordering part of it was too large and made it where I could not click on 'save' to be able to order the item I wanted to buy. And so I had to go to Display Settings to try to bring my Resolution down some.

When I did that though, I got a blue rectangle shaped thing that said that I could not use that resolution or something like that. It kept bouncing around the screen. I tried using the escape button, then I tried using the Control/ Alt/ Delete as I usually did, but neither of those things worked, the blue rectangle was still there bouncing around the screen. Then I tried restarting my computer and also turning it completely off at the plug but neither of those things worked.

Finally I ended up having to dismantle my computer and assemble my new one that fortunately, I had just recently bought. But I really would like to have my old computer as a back up. Could someone please explain to me what I need to do to my old computer to get it working properly again? I am afraid to ever use the changing the Display settings anymore.

Just a guess here....but it sounds like your might have a virus or bug of some kind. Again, this is just a guess based off the symptoms you've described.

Do you know how I could be able to get back into my computer and get the bouncing rectangle off of the page? It is a microserver with no CD Player.

1) Disconnect the internet cable from that computer while it's off.
2) Load up the computer.
3) See if you can get that box again.
4) Once you see it, try to take a screen shot of it with your Smart Phone (I'm assuming Print Screen button/Paste into MS Paint might not show that box)
5) Upload the image. Maybe we can figure out what that is.

Unfortunately I din't have one of those kinds of phones with a camers

Actually, as a matter of fact, it could be your monitor.
Once you change the settings in Windows, your monitor tries to readjust itself to the new settings. That is very highly possible.


Do part of what I said earlier:
Disconnect the computer (physically) from the internet.
Start it up
Then try changing the settings again
See if you can write down exactly what the blue box says. (I want to search for that exact quote on the internet, that would really help.)

Okay let me figure out where I am going to put my old computer to be able to start it up again without having to disconnect my new one. Then I will do as you said and get the exact words on the bouncing blue thing for you.

I have someone coming over on Monday, I am going to try and see if I could already have my old computer set up then ask them if they could take a picture of it with their mobile phone for me

And I don't want you to worry that much about that. I'm assuming the monitor is the reason why that box is showing up. It is very unlikely to be a virus or anything. I'm guessing that monitor is not a flat screen LCD monitor.

Its an Acer Monitor, I am not sure if it would be called a flat monitor, I know next to nothing really about computers. But being that you said that, it made me think of getting one of myt old little monitors out of my closet and try hooking that up to my old computer and see if it works? That way at least I'd know whether it was the monitor causing the problem, right?

I am getting a little end table to put into my bedroom today and then I will be able to use the wall outlet in there and stick the computer on there just to try this out. My living room is set up in such a way that the only available outlet ia behind the couch which is really heavy to move.
