Windows 10: Wrong path for Windows 10 shell startup?

Wrong path for Windows 10 shell startup?

I want a program to start automatically at startup. I pressed Windows+R, typed shell:startup and Enter. The Startup folder opened. I created a shortcut on the desktop and copied/paste it into the startup folder. I restarted, but the program did not start automatically as expected. I opened the startup folder again, and looked at the startup path(without having a reason to). That's when I saw something that didn't look right. The path of the startup folder is/was
    c:/Windows/Users/User/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Word/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup
Why is the startup program list under Word? I didn't put it there!
    Shouldn't it be
    c:/Windows/Users/User/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup
    So I changed it to
    c:/Windows/Users/User/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup
    Now shell:startup opens
    c:/Windows/Users/User
How do I get shell:startup to point to
    c:/Windows/Users/User/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup
so I can get the program to start automatically?

shell:common should startup for all users. It should be located at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp. See if that will help Also, make sure you are creating the shortcut from the exe file and not another shortcut.

Yes, it should be, and it is for me. That's the personal 'per user' startup folder. No idea how /Word/ got inserted, it's probably just this one user profile that's corrupted. Try as a test creating a new user and see if that has the correct shell:startup behaviour.

nearly, the full name is shell:Common Startup
Shell Commands List for Windows 10

That's the 'All users' startup folder. Does that also get a superfluous /Word/ inserted?

The shell recognises "Common Startup" but not "startup". There is a shortcut to the program's exe in Common startup folder, but the program doesn't start at startup.
