This guy seems an unbiased observer (apparently he's equally harsh on every OS)

I've read his articles on Windows and Linux and he "puts the boot" into both of them.
I don't know if he's written a Mac article (if he has I haven't read it).

Although people here think Dedoimedo is a Linux shill he regularly "unloads" on Linux Distros.

    Ubuntu 18.04:
I think Ubuntu 18.04 is a punishment by Canonical for the community's witchhunt against Unity and the company's efforts to make a professional rival to Windows. Well, there you have it. A free and open-source stupidity that takes us back a good decade or more. Unless a miracle happens, I already know my review of Bionic Beaver will be bad and sad, and I will not be using this as my next LTS. I might even be forced to compromise with 16.04 for a while. Maybe Kubuntu will be my savior. Or I'll just go on using Windows, which, despite everything you can say about Microsoft, including its silly games with Windows 10, is still actually a dependable operating system for adults.

    Kubuntu 18.04:
Bottom line, I was expecting zero issues. I got more than a fair share of crap. In two months, this will most likely be a usable distro, perhaps much more so than most other LTS-like candidates, maybe, but for now, it's just an average offering from the forges of mediocrity and apathy. And it highlights the cardinal issue with Linux since day one. Dev-centric development, done in isolation and with no validation. Well, there you go. My first take on Beaver KDE. I will also run an in-vivo upgrade to see what gives, and follow up in a few weeks once the turds are polished. You should check it, but please rein in your colts of enthusiasm. 5/10. For now, Trusty stays.

He also reviews software and he was very impressed with Macrium Reflect 7:
The program offers a wide range of options, sometimes almost too many, and it lets you tweak and customize every aspect of the process, including advanced scripting and scheduling. The restore process also worked fabulously. There were only a few tiny niggles with ViBoot and getting the rescue media written to an external device, but the core functionality was impeccable. This is definitely a keeper, and if you are a Windows user keen on keeping their system imaged, you should stash Macrium Reflect 7 into your freeware toolbox. 9.5/10. Quite recommended, and a very pleasant surprise.

Happens every time. That's the nature of anything "new", even outside of the technology arena. Check out car forums when a new model year is put on sale.

Windows 7, the best OS ever

Just give it time Steve C or just look around the forum, people are complaining/reporting problems already.

Microsoft can not test 1803 on every piece of hardware in the world, so of course there will be issues. That`s why it`s best to wait, if possible.

Maybe it's just me, but there had been less issues with the pre-W10 updates...

No, MS cannot test every piece of hardware, but at least should try testing some, instead of relying on the general public...

    Well...

I think that no matter what the OS is, people will eventually "drop off" if the pain using it is great.
There are so many other choices, nowadays.

Buying Windows 10 for the average user to upgrade isn't cheap! (Aside from the OEM copies.)

Who's to say they don't? You know they do plenty of testing. The Linux community ONLY relies on the general public to do their testing.

... but no one forces that new car model on you. If you don't want to take the chance, you don't.

Unlike Windows, where the new updates are forced on us.

Tonight at work, I locked my computer screen (Windows+L) and went to see a few patients. Came back and logged in with my fingerprint. Apparently Windows had either restarted or logged me out because all my apps had to be relaunched and the system tray was loading icons up as if it were booting up.

Not sure what caused this to occur. I have a Logitech Brio camera that uses Windows Hello facial recognition for login. My laptop does not have a Hello-compatible camera. So I constantly have a notice that Windows is looking for a compatible camera. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

    Hi folks.

Why on earth did they just remove language options from control panel - if they need to get rid of control panel then get rid of the whole thing.

There's perhaps loads of more useless things they could remove from control panel IMO before Language / regional options etc.

It's OK for those who only use a single language but there are lots of places where English + local language used plus a load of places etc such as Belgium or Switzerland where 2 or even 3 standard languages are used as normal.

Networking does actually seem to work for once (invariably have trouble with that after an update) and fortunately Outlook 2016 setup is still in control panel where you can manually set yp inbound and outbound mail servers -- the wretched auto config that the basic application (i.e from with outlook 2016 itself) hoses you up royally so it's nearly impossible to set up manually your mail server(s) config.

The applet from control panel still works (needed to re-install Office 2016 totally - that was something I needed not because WU hosed it up).

Keyboard issue is solved (restored old version, logged on in English, did update and it's fine also in ISL as well).

So let's see what's next. I'm happy though no Networking issues this time -- I'm sure next update will break it again !!

    Cheers
