I had that same thing happen a few years ago, but with a Toshiba. Took it back to Best Buy and got my current HP 17" Lappy. She still works fine after multiple upgrades and then multiple Windows 10 updates. I also had the local mom & pop install more RAM and an SSD hard drive a couple years ago.

It's almost a given that you have a lemon and should take it back immediately.

Nothing wrong with Win 10. You just have crappy computer hardware. Don't have any problems with my desktops which were built for me. Running on 4 machines.
My Dell laptop just gave me problem because of a bad video update from Dell. People bitch about every Windows version wether
it works or not. It is the nature of Windows users.

Not everything is suited for an appy look. But the issue today is in the app design itself. If you run an app on a 5" phone screen with only touch capabilities, then the UI must be fitted accordingly, but lets say you run exactly the same app on a 32" QHD display using mouse, there must be a completely different set of features easily available and represented in a convenient way, without forcing the user to look at elephant sized icons and all menu options hidden behind a hamburger-button.

I don't think all developers or their designers has thought this thing quite through. The key word here is "SCALABILITY" which many apps take advantage of very poorly. Small screen with decent resolution -> hide most stuff and completely disable some features. Big Screen with high resolution -> a lot of real estate -> use scalability to keep everything at readable sizes but cram all features available in the app as close to the main view as possible. Meaning show as much info as possible in the workspace and DO use menus or equivalents for quick access.

For Stock/FOREX trading I don't need a "classical interface". 99.99% of the time all I do is click on a few important buttons, adjust some parameters and do a few swipe gesture on charts. For trading, an app is perfectly fine on both mobile and PC. Only the real estate is a lot bigger on a PC which makes it easier to get the big picture by having multiple charts open side by side. I don't need any menus at all for making money in trading. :)

A one size fits all is MS's major problem.

Have you gotten to a state where your Windows has been clean installed?

Here were the steps to take:

1. Download and Install Macrium Reflect Free
2. Create a full backup of the whole hardrive in your HP-laptop
3. Download Windows Media Creation Tool
4. Create an bootable ThumbDrive with appropriate Windows Edition of version 1709 using the MCT
5. Boot from the ThumbDrive and wipe all partitions clean when Setup asks where to install Windows
6. Let the dust settle (windows installs drivers and configures a few thing)
7. Don't manually install anything else on the system and verify Windows runs smooth
8. Make sure Windows got activated
9. Install all software you need
10. Problem solved
