Since you've determined there are no hardware issues, you have no reason to use the techs at the store or support from HP.

As several of us have stated, this will be your solution.
I'll let the tech look at it to make sure this is not a hardware problem. The HP is under warranty, so if there's a hardware issue it won't cost me anything to get that fixed. What the tech does if it's not a hardware issue doesn't concern me much, since I'll do a clean install.

Actually, I didn't see any fanboys on either side.

I'm neither a fan of computers running Win10 nor Apple,-I'm a fan of stuff that works.
I don't care who make computers, the pope or Osama bin Laden, as long as it works.
I would never have bought the Mackbook if I didn't have to.
My wife needs someting that does the job for her final online exam done from home.
The HP/Win10 would have shut down for no reason at least ten times during that exam, the cursor would constantly freeze, and she would be looking at that blue -got problems, restarting-screen over and over.
What would you have done? Bought another HP with Win10 to save her ass and get her through the exam?
This has nothing to do with fanboyism,-find some other forum to post one-liners.

I hate them all, Windows, OSX, Linux and fanboyism. But I also love them all, except fanboyism. Either something works or it does not. Who made it work and on what platform does not matter to me, as long as it gets the job done. :)

I hate Windows because they have made so much crap over the years. Remember Win95, 98 and Win ME?
That being said, Windows NT4, Windows 2000 and XP pro plus Win7 worked great.
But I also love Windows because there is so much software for that platform,-quality software, even free quality software.
I hate Mac because it is insanely expensive and not as problemfree as it should be judging from the price.
And I love it because their laptops are super slim and lightweight and the first choice if you need to drag it with you to somewhere,-and when it works, it works good.

    What would you have done?
Definitely would not have purchased the Mac. I would have spent the hour doing a clean install on the HP, which is the very first step to owning/buying any OEM system. An hour is well worth not having to spend $2000.

Then I'd loose my warranty. OK, that could been dealt with by creating an image of the present system, clean install, and then re-installing the original system if I needed to send the computer in for service.
I tried creating an image of the present system on DVD's, but there's always a DVD that is damaged and won't be accepted by the OS. A lot of those DVD's are needed to store the image so there is a risk that you bump into a damaged one from time to time.
My wife is leaving for campus in a couple of days so I didn't risk anything getting screwed up, hence I bought the Macbook.

Don't worry. You did the right choice, as long as the device serves it's purpose at the campus. The MAC is perfectly fine and you can always stick Windows in that too if OSX gets boring. Desperate times require desperate deeds.

Now you have time to fight with the stubborn HP and it's representative. :)
