I have yet to see a Linux distro that was pleasing to the eye.
I run ubuntu on an old computer,-holy crap how ugly it is.

Hahaha! Ubuntu defaults are not that pleasing to the eye, but Linux in general can be customized exactly to your liking. You just need to know the right support software and maybe switch to a different window manager. Don't ask me how to do it, but I've seen as many different Linux desktops as I've seen the actual physical Linux computers. All Linux "gurus" seems to want to do their own thing. :)

I had nonstop problems with windows 10 so I went back to windows 7. Files kept getting corrupted for no reason and I had nothing but stutter all the time.

    Good Luck with your Mac.
Yes - good luck! My brother-in-law switched to Mac recently and has been sorry since......guess each has it's own problems, and if they don't, we seem to be able to create some.

    Problems started on day one.
What stage are you at? Is the computer still having a myriad of problems or maybe running somewhat better?
It appears to me that Windows Updates are in control but it might be worth double checking its status before moving on to the next step.
I know I reported I have the latest Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.371) on 2 of my computers but not on my 3rd computer yet. Not everyone's computer has updated to the latest version yet. If the computer isn't ready yet, that isn't unusual.

Everything works in safe-mode so this is not a hardware problem.
OK try this: Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Advanced tab, Performance, Settings > select Adjust for best performance instead of Let Windows choose what's best for my computer. I have to admit this is somewhat of a curiosity factor but it has worked many times for some people I have helped.

Already done that before the recovery and it didn't make any difference.

As we speak I'm creating an image of the whole system.
I plan to do a clean install without all the crapware from HP.
I will reformat the harddrive and clean-install a version of Win 10 from the Microsoft servers.
Now, the tech at the store where I bought the computer will most likely just do a recovery, which I've already done twice. This didn't help me, and it won't help the tech at the store. They'll never spend hours on fixing this,-time is money, so they call it a day. When I pick up the HP and get home it will start to act up again.
Then I'll do a clean install, and if I for some reason need to get the HP serviced again I'll install the image from the original installation and the store will never know and I'll keep my warranty.

I've had a lot of Windows versions, and have done formatting and clean installs a milion times.
Trying to repair stuff with trying out all the software than promises to fix problems is futile in most cases.
When I had Win 7 on my previous Pavilion it would become sluggish and slow after one year or so.
I just didn't bother to download fix this and fix that software or doing this or that,-I just formatted the harddrive and did a clean install from DVD's.
The problems with this computer is so severe that I doubt anything else but a clean install will help.

Since you've determined there are no hardware issues, you have no reason to use the techs at the store or support from HP.

As several of us have stated, this will be your solution.
