Hi folks
VISTA was hated when it came out -- under the hood though it wasn't too different from W7 which most people raved about. The main problem was that for the time most hardware available wasn't "man enough" (sorry Ladies!!) for the job. Run on decent hardware it actually ran fine and is also nice as a VM - I particularly like the AERO GLASS background it had -- unfortunately W10 has gone more for the younger teen dark Distopian type of look. KDE Plasma desktop if you want to try any Linux live distros has a similar type of VISTA AERO GLASS desktop -- I rather would like to see AERO GLASS back again as an option on W10 though.
W10 itself on the whole runs fine - probably the least troublesome Windows ever considering the varied hardware it runs on and even has reasonable protection from malware etc built in. Of course nothing Software wide can be made "Idiot Proof" but using it properly you are more likely to get scammed from social media, fraudulent web sites etc than from any defect within Windows itself.
My main wish is for a serious desktop - to get rid of a load of those silly tiles and have something that looks a bit more professional looking without having to go to 3rd party hacks. Surely that type of tiling on the start screen could be made reasonably configurable.
Otherwise I'd say to Ms -- fair progress - no probs so far and I do like the addition of the Linux WSL subsystem -- messing around with that trying to get a full desktop GUI !!! I can run some GUI programs though !!
Cheers

Blimey, if you are not a power user, then I have no idea what constitutes a power user.
The term is complete bs really anyway.
I see loads of posts on foums where people say "I am a power user" and they do not even know how to use command prompts or simple regedits. If they are power users, they are 1.5 AAA carbon zinc battery driven .
I tested Vista (and I think I remember you did too) and it was a good OS. I didn't get to use it very long, though, since Windows 7 Beta came out shortly after it was released. One thing that made Vista so unpopular was that the media jumped up and down on it and dissed it so badly that no one wanted to take a chance on it.
All you have to do to get rid of the silly tiles is to right click on each one and remove it. I do that every time I do a clean install. I do wish there were a way to delete all the tiles at one fell swoop, though.
I'm not a Linux user, although I've "looked at it" a few times. However, I like where Windows 10 is and find that I can do pretty much whatever I want to do. My needs are simple, though.
