win 10 - tech says dont yet

I think you got good advice from your tech. Unless you need Windows 10 let your tech install it whenever.

Any Forum is going to present multiple, different points of view -- some of them even conflicting. If you're looking for consistence or a consensus, a Forum is not the place to go.

That said ... my advice is to wait before upgrading.

The free upgrade is good for a LONG time -- there is no necessity to rush into it right now. There's already been information released about a 1GB "update" that is applied after the Upgrade -- with lots of fixes. And, there's new information (now) about the SR1 coming out in a few weeks.

I just need a tool to go through and give full access to admin accts on all hard drives, I don't know WTH took place on my upgrade but a lot of access denied stuff happened. [Went from 7 Ultimate to 10 Pro]

I disabled Windows Defender, One Drive, etc.

My F: drive, I went through it completely and added my User (only account) that is admin as it's own full access entity, and for F: any way I think that fixed it. (will do rest of the partitions if needed). Went through each and every file giving MY ACCOUNT ownership and full access, felt really ridiculous having to do that, but it fixed it. [gpedit.msc is a good friend]

To a non-expert Windows user, I can see some major hair pulling and screaming at tech support.

Wouldn't want that job right now.

After all the file stuff is over, I like 10, some stuff is considerably smoother, I feel like Windows caught up to my PC capabilities SOME this time.

I am a bit puzzled though atm, if I PIN to START off right click, it's not always PINNING TO START. [Icons on desktop or elsewhere]

I glanced over the thread, but it seems like the tech you were dealing with is like the people in my company...afraid of anything new.

The people who have issues upgrading to Windows 10 are a very very small percentage. There's no need to wait until some update or roll up pack to be released. If you want 10 and you have a somewhat recent computer, go for it. It's a simple upgrade that even some very non-tech members of my family have been able to perform without any assistance.

Then, when finished, stop going to that tech and find someone knowledgeable.

I'm curious as to what magazine compared Windows 10 to Vista. Seems like a biased comparison with the outcome decided before the actual comparison. Vista was actually very stable, but the 3rd party support wasn't there. Nvidia, for example, didn't have stable drivers available for a while after Vista's release. Windows 10 is also very stable, and has much better 3rd party support. Not all companies have been ready, but it's on them, as Microsoft did an incredible job of making the beta versions available for these companies to be ready. Besides, it's free, so there's nothing to lose in trying it out.

I ran it virtually for most of the Insider testing, and ran it natively upon it's release and haven't looked back.

I'd ask them why. If it's because 'other people have had problems' I'd point out that I'm not 'other people'. If it's because 'other people have had problems with similar equipment' then that's a valid reason. And if it's because "you don't need to right now" I'd say that that's my decision to make.

There are valid reasons why a tech might say "wait". None have been mentioned but it's also possible that the tech didn't mention them to the OP. Find out what the reasons are. If you don't like them, *then* find another tech.
