Normal Start Up OR Selective Start Up

Another thread prompted me to have a look see at msconfig. To my surprise I find I'm operating with "Selective Start UP:

Only twice has this machine been accessed by someone other than myself, 1. A Microsoft Tech (3rd party) for Office installation and 2. A Norton Tech to complete removal of Norton AV. With me watching both times and neither accessed msconfig. Can't understand why this machine would have left Dell with Selective Start Up. SO my question is: With no issues to the contrary, shouldn't I be on "Normal Start Up"? Comments are welcome. Thank you.

    Hello Clayton, :)

If you have all items checked under "Select startup", it is the same as having "Normal startup" selected.

"Normal startup" is selected by default. However, if you ever make any changes to this it won't stay selected and only "Selective startup" will afterwards.

    It's nothing to worry about.

Hey, Thanks. It's been working fine like this for who knows how long. But lately my sanity is questionable (a Chemo Side Effect) and I just wanted a second opinion. On a good day I'll worry about things that really don't need my attention. I'll go ahead and mark this one "Solved".

You have a good day and take care.

You've probably got some "startup" items disabled. Check the task manager.

Yes I do @skcusime . Hadn't thought of that, Dropbox & OneDrive. Thanks, now I can quit wondering about this one and move on to wondering about something else.

    Hey Brink,
But how do you get the "use option boot configuration" box checked.

Hello Jim, and welcome to Ten Forums.

It is normal for the Use original boot configuration setting to be checked and grayed.

Checking the Make all boot settings permanent box in the Boot tab will allow you to check and uncheck Use original boot configuration though.

hi Brink sorry to bring up a old thread but mine looks like this and when i select use original boot config it defaults to normal with safe boot checked, when i uncheck safe boot , it unchecks use original boot and goes back to selective startup. any ideas?.

    Hello @Tonyb,

When you check Use original boot configuration, it will uncheck everything in the Boot tab by default unless you clicked on Apply after checking Make all boot settings permanent first.
