    Nothing to worry about. All my PCs show selective startup since I use Autoruns on all my PCs to disable various third party stuff on boot.

    selective startup

    Hello Clayton, :)

    If you have all items checked under "Select startup", it is the same as having "Normal startup" selected.

    "Normal startup" is selected by default. However, if you ever make any changes to this it won't stay selected and only "Selective startup" will afterwards.

    It's nothing to worry about.
    >>Excuse me for interrupting but I saw this pertinent post while surfing;
    In selective start up of the general tab in system configuration, I have two items checked but the third "use original boot configuration" is grayed out with a check in it. This the default. I run Windows 20H2 and MBAM with Defender.
    Occasionally I use Emsisoft portable malware scanner.
    Is this ok, and thank you?

    Hello Peter,

    It is normal for the Use original boot configuration setting to be checked and grayed.

    Checking the Make all boot settings permanent box in the Boot tab will allow you to check and uncheck Use original boot configuration though.

    >>Brink -Would you advise I leave the settings as I described or check permanent and check Use original boot configuration, that you pointed out? Or is that just additional information?

    It's additional information in case one wanted to check or uncheck it.

    By default, it's checked and grayed out.

    I've seen how mine is set to selective startup mode as well.

    Figured I would try setting it to normal startup mode instead but that didn't turn out very well...my PC failed to boot after this and told me a required device wasn't connected and it also throwed the error code 0xc00000e.

    No big deal, I just restored a system image backup made just before this and all good. However, would be interesting to know what changed the boot mode to selective in the first place since I'm sure it wasn't me.

    Would also be interesting to know what required device is said to be missing when using the normal startup mode. This really doesn't make sense to me since the connected devices are exactly the same regardless what startup mode I'm using.
