    "Life at a glance" and "Play and explore" start menu tabs are missing.

    I messed up the computer I am using, and I restored it to windows 8 with the built in recovery system. After that, I re-upgraded it to windows 10 and I've noticed the other two start menu tabs are missing, and I cant seem to find a setting to re-enable them. I only want this because it makes the menu more comfortable to me. Thanks for any replies.

    They may just be "blank". I've changed mine to say something else, but hover your mouse/finger in this general area and see if you see the two lines. If so, click/tap them and type what you want. May not be the problem, but those lines are hidden, and there is no other setting anywhere to do that. Take a look....

    @glitchdweller

    Right click some items in your list, pin them to Start, create your own Titles for groups of Tiles:

    I've experimented in one of my other accounts by deleting all pinned tiles from Start. Mine now looks like yours. The reason you don't see the area that normally has the tiles is simply that you don't have anything pinned to Start. It will reappear as soon as you pin something.

    Unfortunately there appears to be no way to restore the default set of pinned tiles, but you are free to create and group your own selection of tiles. Edwin has already given you links to the tutorials that can help you do this.

    You'll probably end up with a more useful Start menu that way, as all the pinned apps will be the ones you really want to use. :)

    EDIT: @glitchdweller, there IS a way to get the default tiles back. I had tried this earlier, but I didn't spot the final crucial step of signing out and back in again. I've just signed back in to that other account for other reasons and was surprised to see all the tiles were back. See this tutorial...

    I've just tried this and i will restart soon to see the changes it may have made. Thanks for your help
    Edit: I didn't even need to restart, i just assumed restarting explorer would work, and it does!
    Thanks for the help!

    A restart isn't necessary (though it will work just as well). Just signing out and back in again is sufficient to apply the changes.
