    Searching for files and folders

I seem to remember that in Windows 8 and 8.1, if I searched for a file but didn't remember the exact name of the file, I could type part of the name and the file would be found. But in Windows 10, if I don't type the whole name, and spell it correctly, it just doesn't find the file! Is there any way to change that?

The best method is to use a 3rd party software program.
    Windows search takes time.
Using index software displays instantaneous results.

    Everything: voidtools

It will index everything on all drives.
By default all hidden files are available.
It can be set to launch on boot or when you need the tool.
As you type a character there will be instantaneous results.
The more characters that you type the narrower the search results.

    Windows search takes time.
    Considering file explorer search:
Searching indexed items is 'instant' - provided everything in the file system hierarchy below the point where you have explorer open is indexed.

If not, you get the dreaded green progress bar - even if what you are searching for is indexed.

You can use *,? as wild card characters in specifying your search:

Berl works too, but as you say, erlio doesn't.

Like many here including zbook, I prefer to use a 3rd party tool - in my case
    Locate32 (free).
Lower resource overhead than Everything, also indexes FAT32 should that be needed, and a GUI that is easy to use to specify searches.
