File System Error (-1073741819), black desktop.

Firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong place!

I was using my PC today when all of a sudden Chrome refused to find webpages. Then I tried to remove a program and I was met with the error "File System Error (-1073741819)". I thought these events were unrelated until I tried to navigate my desktop more. Everything slowed down massively, control + alt + delete would take about 15 seconds and caused the screen to go black periodically and then come back to my desktop without displaying any options or task manager. The shut down buttons on my start menu were unresponsive and I was unable to delete any files as I would get the same error.

Now my PC won't get past the user login page. It gets stuck on a black screen displaying the same error.

I've tried booting it with a Win10 USB stick and using sfc /scannow but it passes that without identifying any corrupt files. Startup repair fails to do anything as well.

I have been using Win10 for over a year without coming across this error so I'm assuming it's unrelated to upgrading.

I've searched for a solution but I have been unable to find one for the symptoms I am experiencing.

If anyone knows of, or can hint at a solution I will be forever grateful and bake you cookies.

Boot the installation drive get to a cmd prompt then type chkdsk c: / r see if it finds any errors on the disk

Sadly none of these fixes are applicable to my case other than the SFC scan, which I have done.
