After the battery is replaced, how do I know what settings should be in the BIOS?
Should I disable the flash in my camera and take pics of the BIOS? There are a lot of sub menus.
What is important to remember?
If I click default that would return it to factory so that is not what, I want I assume.

Are you getting messages that the battery needs replacing? How comfortable are you working with electronics, around things that can shock you? The quarter-size battery, usually a CR-2032, is relatively easy to remove, helps to have a pencil-style magnet to lift it out of the socket. I usually leave computer off but still plugged in to make the change and settings don't get lost but then I've built and repaired computers. As for the BIOS which is stored on the CMOS, if you didn't make any changes during install of Windows there should be no problems after the change but you may have to enter the Setup to re-detect the drives.
BIOS = Basic Input Output system
CMOS = Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor
If your system is currently working then you should keep track of all the settings you currently have (either remember them or take photos) and just restore those after changing the battery.
Yes, there are a lot of sub-menus. But unless you know exactly which ones you changed then there isn't another way to back them up.
If you don't want to do that then just load the defaults and only change settings if you absolutely need to. Assuming that this is the Dell XPS in your profile, the PC shipped with the factory defaults. If anything changed it would have been from you (or the person who originally set up the system).
My machine is about 5 1/2 years old. I will wait to see if the clock fails.There are no symptoms but I wanted to ask in case.
I guess taking pics wont hurt but I think you said if I hit default which I see under F2 I would only have to change settings that ask to be changed, or are necessary. I have not made any change that i know of except maybe boot order.

You don't have to unplug it as long as you're careful not to drop the battery onto the motherboard. If you don't unplug it then you won't lose your settings. As Berton said, a magnet would help prevent any accidents.

Your BIOS probably have settings for Factory defaults and/or enhanced. Look in your MB's manual, it's usually F5.

The only item besides possibly boot menu options that might cause or one might have issues with is fast start.
But if one knew there was an issue they'd probably also disable fast start in the 10 os too for good measure seeing a lot of older hardware is not comp[atible with 10's new features.
In which hibernation would be disabled in win-10 with command prompt as administrator and
