I had the same issue black screen after login. What I did is I put my lappie on for one night with Network! Other day when I restarted my laptop, It had updated some updates! After that my issue was automatically fixed!
Simplest Solution: As this problem is from the side of windows, So obviously they might also had solution! Have patience and trust the process!

I hate it when Windows Update works in the background and all you see is a black screen with the mouse. Is it too hard to display some progress? So we would know everything is OK and just let it finish. Even better, I would like to be able to use the computer while updates install in the background. Microsoft please fix it!

My problem and the solution (I hope to help)

Hello, today I have encountered this problem after changing a hard drive to a laptop for an SSD. After cloning the disk and going through the odyssey of repairing the UEFI Boot, when I got it to start Windows 10, I got a nice black screen with the mouse pointer. I was looking for a solution and I found this thread in which (I could not read it completely) apparently the problem came from the graphics card and making a session "blind" was getting into windows, or removing the battery, etc. ..
As I did not get anything, I thought of removing the windows password using the cheat to rename the sethc.exe file (this is the Stickykeys window that appears when pressing shift several times in the login window and that it did appear in my wonderful Black screen) and copy the cmd.exe file as sethc.exe. This way when pressing Shift several times I get a console window and could change the windows password. What was my surprise that in doing so, the console prompt would put "D: \ Windows" instead of "C: \ Windows". I thought then that the letter of the system disk had changed and that is why Windows did not work.
    Eureka !!!
I followed the instructions of the following link to change the letter assigned to the hard disk and after restart everything works perfectly.

    Link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ter-in-windows

I hope to be of help.

ATTENTION, THIS SOLUTION MUST ONLY BE APPLIED IF YOUR SYSTEM UNIT LETTER HAS CHANGED. Otherwise windows would stop working.
If you need more information do not hesitate to ask for it.

Since latest Windows 10 update i facing a black screen with upper left line blinking after Motherboard boot screen. The black screen happens only when i restart computer. What i need to do to Windows boot up normally is cut of power to computer PSU, and turn on again then starting computer will boot up normally.

I just stuck now trying to discover if my main OS SSD is damaged or some of my 2 secondary HDD's. All disk monitor like diskInfo,HD Tune show no errors for my disks. I thinking if the problem is Windows itself.

Hi, Usually the black screen with a cursor blinking is a problem of Boot sector or in your case with the EFI partition. When Windows 10 restart, don't restart the PC like old windows releases, it make a warm restart. If you have a Windows 10 disk or Usb drive, try repair de boot with it.

If the drive letters are messed, you can correct them by booting from a live CD such as Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk I don't remember which tool can do that, but you can Google it. Also you can disable the "warm restart" (it is actually called "Fast Boot") to maximize compatibility, I think this is in the Power Settings.

    Win 10 64 bit

Or simply, when you see the login screen, press Win + P, choose PC screen only, log in.

    Done

I can restore the original Intel graphics card driver from the driver CD which came with the pc.
I have an Intel onboard graphics card & Nvidia GeForce 370 with the latest driver. I have the same black screen problem. I'm not sure how to prevent WU from updating the drivers when I try to update 1607 to 1703. Can you elaborate?
