I believe there are many different problems and many solutions in this thread. I found the black screen on the Settings Page and found a fix. I did not remember that I was using a high contrast windows background when I converted from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The solution was to turn off high contrast with shortcut: Left ALT + Left SHIFT + PRINT SCREEN. This keyboard combination toggles High Contrast on and off.

I had the same problem with black screen on a HP 8560p with AMD Radeon HD 6470M.

The ONLY solution that helped was to trigger the brightness sensor for the display (Key Fn-F11).
Immediately after pressing Fn-F11 the screen reappeared and also after reboot all is working well.

Previous driver-updates did not solve the problem.

Just wanted to thank the Forum for pointing me in the right direction to get rid of the blank/black screen/no mouse on my Dell N5110 laptop. A bios update from A07 to A11 fixed the problem. Easy peasy, thanks to the posters here. I downloaded "Rufus" a free bootable DOS USB drive util, and the updated bios from Dell support. Move the Dell file to the bootable USB Drive. Boot the laptop off of the USB drive and run the Dell N5110A11.exe file. It was done in just a couple of minutes and the laptop booted up into W10.

Once again: DELL N5110 LAPTOP problem solved here. Hope this helps another member...

    Many thanks for this!

I'd exhausted every solution posted here, and when I read your post, I was initially skeptical that your suggestion would have worked... but knowing that the desktop would appear when I put the laptop into Sleep / Hibernation and then brought it out again, I figured I'd have nothing to lose to try your suggestion...

Anyway, for those trying everything, try this simple (possible) fix above from Beastmode. Worked for me, and has removed the problem. Stable for a number of days too. I can't believe it's just a co-incidence because I must have done tens of reboots trying things, and the desktop came up perfectly immediately having done the above.

I'll certainly try this if (when!) it goes black again. ;-)

(Signed up just to post that this worked for me)

Windows goes to Black Screen, no cursor

I'm having the issue of Windows going to black screens (two monitors) on my desktop. There is no cursor. I've had to do a hard reboot to bring it up again. All drivers are up to date, not sure what to do but this is a real pain.

Thanks for the help, I was one of the ones whose PC (Windows 10) thought I had two screens, and typing in my password anyway worked.

As to why it happened this is the first PC I've built and I'm new to the whole thing so I plugged both my DVI and VGA cables from the monitor to the tower, which I think may have fooled the CPU into thinking I had two screens to work with. Doubt this is a very common mistake but just making sure.

Here is the fix for those with AMD and Intel HD 3000 video drivers and Windows 10
May work other configurations. I only fixed 3 different systems with similar configs.
Issue happens because the 2 video drivers don't play nice together. These steps fix that.
Also it is highly recommended to install the latest system BIOS.

Obtain DDU This removes the video drivers.
    Obtain UnifL drivers
    1. Run DDU and remove AMD drivers, after restart remove Intel Drivers
Let DDU disable Windows automatic driver installs
    2. Install Catalyst 16.2.1 UnifL This will give you a set of drivers.
    3. Run UnifL-Automatic-Installation Assistant (as admin). This should install the Intel drivers
    4. Run setup.exe from the AMD folder. Install ONLY AMD Display driver (no CCC)

    Black screen delay is gone.
