Windows 10 update build 10568 causes black screen boot.

Unlike some of the other posts, I'm experiencing something slightly different. I upgraded my Dell Latitude D810 (yeah I know its not suppose to be possible, but its done) to Windows 10 build 10240, which took some time I might add but it works great. Then all of a sudden it did an auto update to build 10568 and then I was only able to boot to the log in screen, once I logged in then it went to the black screen of death with only a mouse visible. To my surprise no matter which fix I tried from the many fixes on the net, they did not cure my problem. So digging a little deeper I found that this was the only thing that worked for me, listed as follows.
1.) Turn pc off by the power button ( not windows soft off power). So you already need to be in the black screen of death.
2.) Keep in mind this is with Windows 10 build 10240 already installed. Boot pc from power button you should boot to the log in screen, then hold the shift button, click the power icon, click the restart (while still holding the shift button) this will take you to choose an option window. From there choose trouble shoot>advanced options>revert to previous build. Let this run for 15 minutes or until hard drive light fails to flash anymore then cancel. After you cancel and reboot, the pc will automatically take up where it left off with reinstalling previous version of Windows, never fear this will not take you back to Windows 7 or 8.1 you originally upgraded from, but to the original upgrade of Windows 10 build 10240 or there abouts.

Once the pc is finished you are back to the original build of Windows 10 and all is good!
In Windows 10 you can not disable auto updates, but you can opt to make it notify you when it wants to do an update an then refuse it. I plan to continue to refuse the update for several months until Microsoft can come up with a patch for the problem that occurs in Windows 10 build 10568, the black screen of death/w mouse cursor.
I hope this helps any of you that are experiencing the same problems.

Okay if you have just upgraded to windows 10 and are sitting at a black screen for way too long here's the problem and how to fix it.

If you have an on board Intel graphics controller as well as an add on graphics card, windows thinks you have one more monitor connected than you actually have. so when windows loads its outputting the video signal to a bogus monitor.

    How to fix this
firstly wait long enough so the mouse cursor to appear when you move the mouse.
(blank screen with a white mouse cursor)

Then press the space-bar and enter your login password or pin (yes your doing this blind)

You should now be logged into windows
if the desktop dose not appear after 30 seconds then press WindowsKey-P down arrow twice and enter.

    I hope this helps

Windows 10 boot to black screen

I installed Win 10 from USB booko times over 2 days and was pulling my hair out. I have an NVIDIA card with two monitors attached. After I unplugged the second monitor everything was fine in Windows land.

    Windows 10 (32 and 64 Bit)
       07 Jan 2016 #126

Fully resolved on my end after using some of the suggestions on here and adding my own. I am running a fairly old tower on Windows 10 32-bit with an ATI-X1900-XTX Dual Display Capability Card and an on-board graphics controller. that I obviously don't use.

Anyways, I was having the same problem; black screen after boot with mouse cursor. At first it just happened on occasion and I would reboot to a normal login screen, but then it became every time. I initially used the advice on here of holding down WindowsKey+P + down arrow twice +Enter and that ultimately worked. Initially it didn't work though and I realized I needed to (blindly) cycle through the screen output options by continually hitting the down key until I got a picture ( and I didn't need to use "Enter"). So if this option did not work for you with just hitting the arrow down twice, I recommend hitting the down arrow a third time.

One of the recommendations in this thread is to disable the on-board graphics in the Device Manger. I was unable to disable it because it is already being disabled by the BIOS since I have the Graphics in the BIOS set to PCIe not auto. If you have it set to Auto and have the option to change it, I would recommend doing so.

Anyways, what ultimately solved it for me was disabling the Secondary Output of the Graphics Card. This might not be a solution for anyone wanting to actually use their dual monitor capability.

    You can do this by:

    1) Open Device Manger
    2) Click on Display Adapters
3)From the Title Menu, Click "View", "ShowHidden Devices"
    4) Right Click on "Secondary" and Disable it

Easier than any other fix I've seen on here so I've signed up to tell you....from the black screen do alt+ctrl+del which should bring up the options menu. Click on the power button on that screen and it gives the option to restart and install updates. Problem solved (for me at least).

This happened to me just yesterday

Yesterday i closed the lid to my laptop and when I tried to open it and go back online I had a black screen. I turned off /on and I see my ACER logo, then the screen goes dark but I see a swirling sircle for about 30 seconds. It then goes to a picture of a cave/sea i normally hit spacebar to go by this and then my welcome screen appears were I use a PIN to log in. I can input my PIN and the screen sits for about 90 seconds with the swirling circle again then goes to a blank screen. I do see the curser when I move on the touchpad. But I have tried the F8 to get to safe mode and I can not it just never goes past the black screen. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Below is a Microsoft Knoledge Base entry from April of this year.

"The lock screen in Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10061 might appear as a black screen with a mouse cursor

When you sign out of Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10061 and return to the lock screen, you might see only a black screen with a responsive mouse cursor. Pressing the Alt+Tab keys or the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys has no visible effect.

If you are experiencing this issue, follow these steps to sign into Windows:

At the black screen, press the Ctrl key once on an attached physical keyboard. (You won’t see any visible change, but pressing the Ctrl key will place the cursor in the password box that you’re currently not able to see.)

Now type the password of the user that just signed out and press Enter. This will sign you back into Windows and the desktop will appear.

If you failed to sign in because you mistyped the password, press Enter once more. Then retype the password and press Enter." ...

    W10 on Asus G75V

I have tried all the above to solve that problem here also ..
however, there are only (2) actions that I can do ..
    (a) If I find myself caught in that position then remove power supply and briefly disconnect the battery .. then it all purrs along nicely (til next time).. or ..
    (b) always shut down via the keyboard power button .. that does keep me free of the problem ..(rebooting however is a problem still !
