Windows 10: Too many Windows 10 problems, should I go back to Windows 7?

OK, I rebooted after making the registry edits. Boot time went from two minutes to 30 seconds! I'm definitely happy about that!!! Thanks a million.

Windows Update is still showing as running in the task manager. Is that ok?

Sorry for this dumb question: For the active hours, is midnight 12 am or 12 pm? There is no agreement about this in the English-speaking world, so I just need to know about Microsoft World.

Yes, you'll still want to get the quality updates (security/bug fixes).

12am, but if you want to be really sure just change the Windows time format to 24hr and it will become obvious.

Midnight is 12AM, noon is 12PM.

For the 'free' debate, even though the GWX/Get Windows 10 did end there was an extension called Assistive Technology [also free]. Last I was able to get was around January 10, 2018, last check didn't bring up the page I had used but that's okay as I have no more computers to Upgrade. And Yes, a Version number change has traditionally been known as Upgrade [for example 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709] as an Upgrade makes a lot of changes while Builds are more like Service Packs.

The official upgrade assistants (GWX, Assistive Technologies, etc) have been officially withdrawn. However, reports are still coming in that if you use the Windows install media to manually upgrade a 7/8 machine it will still activate and get a digital licence.

whats the exact model # of your HP - sometimes you can't rely on pc/laptop manufacturer drivers and have to go to the original manufacturer to get the correct drivers for better functionality.

im running an HP (basically just the case and motherboard are HP, even though motherboard is ASUS, it was made specifically for HP, it is a desktop computer. But I've had to download audio, network card (both wired and wireless card. plus i have had to manually get drivers from ATI for my ati r260x video card to make things work.

Also, this computer is a media edition computer so I removed several components just to make it work, such as the e Home card reader and RF sensor (i guess it had a remote control for it) plus I removed the WinTec pci tv tuner card.

I know you canj't remove most hardware interface cards in a laptop, but my main issue was this ancient pci-x WiFi card that was built in, caused a lot of issues, I replaced it with a USB WiFi Card w/5.8ghz channel, and couldn't be happier.

Sometimes you need to go to BIOS and disable PS/2 mouse, and set things that are set to "auto" in the bios and set them to "enabled " if you know you have them. Or you can disable those items so they are not seeing by windows.

If you can't find manufacturer specific drivers, you may want want to remove those drivers (all at once) and then reboot to see if they reloaded in device manager.

Then you can try "Update Driver" and see if anything is found after the initial reinstall of drivers is done, and sometimes you have to go to the manufacturer website to find the drivers and use them

My internet speed after the new WiFi USB card I installed. It was at 3-5 Mbps, now it's easily over 60 Mbps

I recommend making a backup of your current installation using Macrium Reflect Free then try a clean install of the latest Windows version on a clean system drive. I recently did clean installs on two 2006 Pcs with few problems.

It's a Gigabyte Brix with a bios that chooses between W7 and W8.1. It is set to W7 and wont accept the upgrade. But it is nice to have a W7 machine anyway. I will just try to get rid of the annoying message. Thanx.

@Kpat62, apparently it's supposed to be able to upgrade to 10. At the first reboot of the upgrade....

... press [Del] to enter BIOS setting then adjust [OS Selection] to [Windows 8.x].
