I usually use a USB rather than a DVD but yes, that does seem a long time. I normally expect about one and a half hours until Windows 10 is fully installed and running.
The 'getting files ready for installation' is now at 50%, so it took 47 minutes to go from 25 to 50%.
I popped open the PC and it is not dusty, air flows out the CPU and PSU.

If I can reinstall win10, I will run something like cpuz to check reported bus speeds.

Perhaps it's just a slow DVD drive. I'd leave it running and see if it speeds up after the first reboot, when it's finished using the DVD.

Found the problem. I unplugged PC. Then I booted Ubuntu LiveUSB, it does not use the hard drive. Everything was super fast.

Ran the Drives test, it shows the drive as FAILED.

...I can reinstall word 2007 and chrome. Not much else is on it.
A new drive and a clean install it is then. Glad to hear you got to the bottom of it.

Me too, getting a 1TB Hitachi 6gb/sec with 32mb cache, lots better than what was in there.

Nice idea, but not for the wife's PC, she wont care.

This PC is left on all the time. I leave all 3 of our home PC's on all the time. One is our TV PC with WMC, my desktop I use constantly. She uses hers when she gets home from school. My boat PC I could see it benefitting from a SSD.

I tried something, I unplugged the drive, flipped it over plugged it back, rebooted live usb, drive came up as ok, but lists hundreds of smart errors. Then tried to make a partition, it is still trying to make a partition. I was wondering if the cable went bad, but not going to bother, just wait for another drive..
