Switching From The Tiles View To The "Normal" Windows View: How

    Hello,

Not too sharp with this "stuff" anymore at my age now, so please bear with me a bit.
    Desktop pc.

It always seems to open up with that Tiles View, which I really dislike.

I want the basic, Windows view, without the Tiles, which I "think" is called a Start Menu ?

    a. From the Tiles View, is there an easy way to switch to the view I prefer ?

    b. Is there some setting to have it open up, directly, without the Tiles View ?

Does it have anything o do with "Full Screen" setting, or anything like that ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

Hi, I believe you're talking about the Start Menu.
I dislike the Win 10 start menu and use another program instead- very configurable. No tiles.
Although it's just recently been discontinued, it's fully functional and the most highly recommended- and free.
    Classic Shell.

It can be set to look like Win 7's, or expand across the screen in columns like XP's.

Other such programs like Start 8 (small fee) are also configurable.

The can look like Win 10's or Win 7's.

Replacement of the start menu is easy- and you can still use the Win 10 menu if you wish.

You can also remove or change tiles that appear on Win 10's, but to me the huge draw back is it doesn't provide drag 'n drop or easy manipulation, and that format does not support large start menus with many deeply nested folders correctly.

    Hi @Robert11

Sounds very much like you are talking about 'Tablet Mode'. You would probably be happier with 'Desktop Mode' which is more like the 'Windows 7' experience, while Tablet Mode is more like the 'Windows 8' experience.

Use Tablet Mode or Desktop Mode when you Sign in to Windows 10

You could also be talking about the full-screen Start Menu, which at first glance looks very similar to Tablet Mode.

In deference to the person who recommended Start 8, there is a version for Windows 10 called "Start 10" which fixes several issues. Same price. I stopped using it because the Windows Start Menu is really quite adequate (faint praise!)

Another highly satisfied Start10 user here, too. StarDock makes excellent Windows software, and has done so for over 20 years.

One gotcha with Tablet Mode is it only works if you have one monitor. As soon as I plug my second monitor into my laptop it toggles out of tablet mode, and greys it out, disables it. Also greyed out as an option on my desktop PC that runs multiple monitors. rant over,
