Same problem but when you get to the black screen just tap your power button. Computer will go off then tap your power button again then Walla! Works perfect after that! :)

Make sure to upgrade your BIOS. Once I did that, the screen works perfectly.
Mine also worked after updating the bios!!! Thanks for putting in your solution.

Before updating the BIOS on my Dell laptop (which solved my problem!), I could get to the desktop after booting to a black screen by closing the lid on my laptop for about 10 seconds, then opening the lid.

.... if the desktop did not appear shortly after that, I would very briefly touch the power-on/shut-down button and the desktop would appear.

That was not really a fix... but it did get the laptop into normal operations. Worth trying... If that works for you then you likely have a BIOS compatibility issue with Windows 10.

Good luck ... I know how frustrating this issue is.

Your tips worked! Thank you APON80

Thank you APON80!!! Your tips worked for me.

I also got the black screen on my Dell Inspiron N5050 when I upgraded from Win7 to Win10. But was able to connect to a TV using the HDMI port. I then installed the new version of BIOS from Dell.com. Even though the new version was dated March 2014, it appeared to have fixed the compatibility issue.
