Taskbar options no longer work.

    Taskbar options no longer work.

Right clicking on the taskbar clock doesn't open the calendar, it opens the same window which appears when right clicking in a vacant area of the taskbar.

Right clicking on the action centre icon and then on Open Action Centre doesn't do anything except close that window.

Some of the taskbar icons used to be revealed only when the, now absent, up arrow was clicked.

I want to restore the settings as they were before. How can I do this?

Hey there, Syncopator: sorry for your troubles. I'm a little puzzled about your difficulty with the calendar. I tried your "right-click" approach on several of my Win10 PCs, and ALL OF THEM behave like yours does. On my machines, I have to "left-click" the clock to get the calendar to show up. If that also works for you, you may not have a problem.

Can you left-click on Action Center to open it? On my PCs, right-clicking does produce the menu you describe, but then when I click "open Action Center" it does indeed work as it should. I found another TenForums thread that reports Action Center problems, but I can't find anything that's exactly like yours. However, Brink's tutorial Enable or Disable Action Center in Windows 10 suggests a possible course of action: Disable the Action Center first, then re-enable it second. See if your problem persists. If not, declare victory; if so; report back here and we'll come up with something else for you to try.

Thank you for the information Ed.
I tried tried the REG file fix mentioned in Brink's tutorial but that has had no effect.
I don't see how to disable/enable the Action Center.
I have the suspicion that I am going to have to do a Windows repair

    To reiterate what happens;

If I hover over the Action Center icon a message comes up. At the moment it says No new notifications.
Left clicking does nothing. Right clicking opens up a window giving four options; Open Action Center, Turn on quiet hours, Show app icons, and Show number of new notifications.

Hovering over, or right clicking the time display shows the date just above it. Right clicking on it does nothing.

Having clicked on the taskbar, clicking on Taskbar settings does nothing.

Understood. I'm casting about for additional solutions, but so far coming up dry. Perhaps @Brink @Essenbe or @f14tomcat might have some ideas?

Half an hour ago I discovered another problem. A frequently used graphics program doesn't work now. Clicking its icon brings up a window "Browse for folder" in which the folders on the C drive are listed. In the folder which holds the program I don't see another folder labelled "Program" in which I would expect to see the .exe file.

I used the repair option from its installation disc but that hasn't changed a thing. This suggests to me the inevitability of a Windows reset.

Nothing to lose, so I think I will do that.

    Hi Ed,

I reset Windows and that has cleared that problem and one or two other minor things.
I'm still reinstalling applications and shortcuts.

Glad you got it (somewhat or inconclusively) sorted. An upgrade repair install is becoming my go-to solution when I find myself spending more than an hour to try to solve a problem. That only takes half an hour at most and it solves the vast majority of problems I encounter. I must also confess that, as somebody who likes to tinker with Windows, many of those problems are self-inflicted!

Yes, I too, am guilty of self-inflicted palaver.
