Have rolled back the Nvidia driver to 388.71 and it has installed successfully, will test for a few days. How do I stop windows updating the driver?

Edit: Worked out how to stop driver updates from google.

I know but I am pretty sure the Nvidia driver is at fault and I have rolled back to a working driver as far as I know.

So far so good with prim95 and furmark although had to stop furmark at 80 degrees as it only has a passive cooler.

I literally registered to say thank you for providing this user will soo much helpful info which he/she never acknowledged. Also a shout out to JohnD for his "perfmon /rel" comment. Without a community of knowledgeable users like yourself, the rest of us would be completely useless.

    Thank you.
Misbehaving or corrupt drivers can be fixed by uninstalling first, installing over an existing driver, rolling back, etc.
It's preferable to install the best tested driver on the computer or motherboard manufacturer and component manufcturer websites. The rollbacks are typically used when the most up to date drivers are misbehaving.
A stable computer and without performance issues is the goal.

Wondering if this is a hardware problem or something else (see specs). Machine is on 24/7 and since updating the graphics driver to the latest version from Nvidia as it contains Spectre mitigations I have experienced 1 black screen which lasted for 2 seconds.

The other night I left my machine at the login screen and came back to it the next morning and it was at the login screen still but must have rebooted as it took a few seconds to login and startup programs had to run again as if I was logging in after a reboot.

Nothing in the even log apart from an event log uptime of 5 hours at midday. Any ideas as to what could have caused the reboot as usually when there is a power blip I get a kernel power event in the event log?
Same here. since about 3-4 months, totally random. no matter if idling or heavy workload. last time today. No BSOD, no event log entry other than: "The previous system shutdown at 5:13:21 PM on ‎8/‎29/‎2021 was unexpected."

    Any and all tests negative.
    What's your complete hardware?
