    Hello Bulldog, :)

If you like, you might see if downloading and running the .bat file below may help.

    Attachment 172769

    Contents of .bat file:

    Code:
    REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel" /v "{679f85cb-0220-4080-b29b-5540cc05aab6}" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f

    taskkill /im explorer.exe /f & explorer.exe
    This worked immediately. Thanks!

.bat file seems to have broken my desktop completely, including not showing the task bar. Which means I can't get to the control panel to hit a restore point. Any suggestions?

Hello, and welcome to Ten Forums.

It sounds like something just interfered with the restarting of the explorer process. Restarting the computer should sort this for you.

Was just coming back to report that a restart did the trick, thanks. And the Quick Access icon is indeed gone so there's that. May I just say, though, that I truly, deeply, and most heartfeltedly (is SO a word!) detest Windows 10 and wish it would die screaming in flames? Thanks, I needed to just say that.

I know this is an old thread, but this unwelcome and difficult-to-delete "Quick Access" just appeared on my desktop.

In my case, it happened immediately after installing Ghostscript for a pdf printer driver issue. However I am not convinced that it is not tied to a Windows update that also may have just occurred because I had updates disabled but was playing with those update settings in trying to solve my printer issue.

The real point of my post is to point to another thread (on a different site) that solved this issue for several people and for myself. In my case the simply option to uncheck "Use Sharing Wizard" on Explorer --> View options did the trick without having to try any of the registry edits. Hoping this is not against forum rules, here is the link:
