Computer Restarts instead of Shut Down After Windows Update

I have had the message on my laptop that said to install windows updates. Its like a rectangle message and it ask you if you want to remind you later, pick a later time or update it now. I delayed updating it for a long time and clicked on remind me later. So basically everyday i would get the same message and i click on remind me later. I then decided to go along with the updates and install it. When i did this, later on i went to click on start and shut down. However, my laptop does not shut down. Instead it restarts. Can someone tell me how i can fix this issue?I tried many times to shut down but it would not. It restarts everytime. Should i just hold the power button to shut it down that way?

There is another issue here. When i click shut down and it restarts, my wired internet connection which has a computer showing... it changes into an airplane and it shows airplane mode. Can someone tell me why it does this? It requires me to turn airplane mode off. Also it seems like i got bluetooth turned on by accident. How do i turn that off?

But right now i want to know why i cannot turn my computer off.

Try running this line and see if you get proper shutdown: %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 00

Can you explain what do you mean by this? Im not sure what you mean by that...

Someone in another forum said thats the falls creator update and the only way to fix it is either

Reinstall windows or restore windows to an earlier point. My issue is this. If i were to restore windows to an earlier point, does that mean any program i installed afterwards i wouldn't have? Because i did install an update to a certain program i have on my computer after i did the update.

I have an older HP laptop that has problems with the FCU -- so I restored it to the AU (1703) and am sticking with that.

Also, yes, if you restore the laptop to an earlier date, anything installed after that date will no longer be present on the PC.

Did you try this I m pretty sure it is a direct command line for shutdown..... Simply,it 8s the command Windows should execute when you shut down.....

And also which update did you install.....

It's not a fix but it's just line command to shut down and sent by for instance shutting down by touching Start button. It can point in right direction.

I like to mention this as well. Well i click shutdown... it shows shutting down but then it restarts. The thing however is it restarts almost automatically. Such as if i normally click start and then restart, it would restart but there would still be the dell windows screen showing. This does not i don't believe. So is there a big difference here?

Okay this is strange. I left the computer on overnight because of this issue with plugged battery into outlet. Then later today i clicked shut down and it did shut down. However when i turned it back on, then went to click shutdown, it shows the word shut down... then it immediately restarts without the dell logo showing etc.

So what should i do now? Basically i cannot turn off my computer. The only way would be to hold power and power it off that way. it seems.

Why are you so stubborn, try that command I gave you. If it works every time, it's because of windows settings, if it doesn't, it's some setting in BIOS.
