    Garbled Registry Entries

    Hello,

Was looking at registry to make a backup of some entries and saw the following garbled entries. Was wondering what this was all about.

Recently, my machine, after latest windows updates, has been having issues waking up after Hibernate. This issue seemed to be Intel HD530 graphics driver related. Hence I installed some older drivers to see.

    Thanks for your assistance.

You should not modify registry unless you are told by Microsoft those keys could be created by one of your installed programs they cause no harm you should not delete them or backup registry before deleting the keys.

I'm sure we've all modified registry at some point or another without contacting Microsoft for that

If it's any comfort, you're not the only one to see things like this....

Strange symbols found in Registry Editor

...one possible suggestion in that thread was disk corruption affecting the registry files. Try a chkdsk.

    Thanks, will do.

However, the link that you referred to had another link to Microsoft site and it seems that this garbled characters are related to Avast Browser Cleanup that I'd uninstalled recently.

Will still run chkdsk and see.

[WIN7] Chinese letters/Words in registry - Microsoft | DSLReports Forums

Here's what I would do. Look in the cache2 and ext folder to see if there's other information that can help you figure out what this is. If you don't see anything in there, make 3 small exports of those folders: Right click on the Chinese characters > Export > Save to 1.reg on the Desktop. Do 2.reg and 3.reg for the other two. After you're done, delete those 3 from the Registry. Make a folder somewhere on your computer and save the 1.reg, 2.reg & 3.reg in there. Restart your computer. Once your computer Restarts, just keep those 3 files in that folder for like 2 weeks. I'm sure they have nothing to do with anything. Delete them after 2 or 3 weeks or whatnot. Stupid spam ending up on the computer is very annoying.
