Right Clicking Start Menu Items not Working

Hi all. This is my first post. Using win 10.
The Issue i'm having is that when I right click on the Windows Start Icon, I get a list of menu items:

    Apps features
    power options
    event viewer *
    system,
    device manager*
    network connections
    disk management*
    computer management*
    Command Prompt*
    Command Prompt (admin)*
    -------------
    Task Manager*
    Settings,
    File Explorer
    Search
    Run
    -------------
    Shutdown
    Desktop."

However, when I select some of them nothing happens, I've added an asterisk to those and made them bold above.

For instance "command prompt" and "command prompt(admin)" as well as Task Manager don't work from this menu. I do have other ways of opening those and they work, but it would be nice to do it from this right click. Thanks

I've had Classic Shell Installed and tried uninstalling but the issue persists.

    Thanks

    Hey Sleestax,
It's probably a shell extension that's causing the problem. Get ShellExView and hide all the MS ones and disable the rest, to see if you can track it down. https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

Open an elevated PowerShell window.Type the following and press Enter:

    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    Hope something helps you

Right Clicking Start Menu Items not Working

Eagle51, Thank you for posting about ShellExView.com! I had the same exact problem as Sleestax, and I had additional issues of not being able to "Run as Administrator" by right clicking the mouse.

I used ShellExView to sort by Type, then Filtered by Type: Context Menu, and disabled all the non-Microsoft products. That worked. Then I added back (re-enabled) groups of the extensions and individual extensions until I found the culprit.

On my machine the culprit is "QuickSFV Shell Extension" (ver 2,3,6,0), an extension that I downloaded January 2019 when I was still on Windows 7 before I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. That was the only extension that was causing the problem.

Now my machine is working well. Yea! Thank you Eagle51 and Sleestax for posting!

Also, actions I took that DID NOT fix the issue were removing the Dropbox application, stopping Windows Firewall, and stopping Avast Shields. Also running sfc / scannow DID NOT fix the issue, although text was displayed that it repaired something.

I hope this helps anyone reading this old thread!

    Thanks,
    Gordon
