Right Click - Edit - Keep Using This App

How do I fix this, I reset my preference to edit images with my preferred image editing program with the registry editor, after failing to locate anywhere in windows how to set my preferences for image editing, and now this pops up, and doesn't even include my preferred image editing program.

Note: "imagequick" is MINE, I compiled it, so don't touch that, that is default for VIEWING images, I am now wanting to set my preferred EDITOR.

Find a .png image, right click on it and select Properties, click the change button and navigate to the program you prefer.

If the suggestion in Post #3 doesn't work, go to Control Panel/Default Programs/Associate a File type with a program/Choose Default app by file type. Select the file extension you want to open and select the program you want to use.

Viewing and editing should be same, not a way to set differently...file association is key and you can't have two... u can right click and open with or the registry key, set to edit with...still requires a right click.

Yes you can, you look at the registry keys and there is OPEN and there is EDIT.

Before I edited the key, it was pointing to mspaint, so I pointed it to upaint. and now I get this popup every time.

This is not correct behavior, something is broken, how do I fix this?

    Try this:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command

Change the default of mspaint.exe to your image editor of choice. In my case, Paint.NET.
    Example:
    OLD-"%systemroot%\system32\mspaint.exe" "%1"
    NEW-"%ProgramFiles%\Paint.NET\PaintDotNet.exe" "%1"
If you want use editor, Brink put a link to Windowseight forums:

    Sigh.

    That is what I did:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command
    (Default) ""C:\Program Files\upx\upaint.exe"" "%1"

    Wait.

    Double double quotes, ...

Sir, I thank you for making me post what windows did with my cut and paste, it doubled up the quotes. Removed one set and it behaves as expected.
