    Observation.

    Hi all.
i am not sure about your good selves, however, for my part I dread microsoft updates arriving!

Having started back in the days of DOS and gradually progessed via the Microsoft chain of dross via W97,W97 second edition, good old XP, Vista, wonderful Windows 7, W8.1 to this current mess (W10 pro x64), in all this time I have never experienced so many problems as there are with the current salmonella handout from Microsoft.

I seem to spend my time constantly back tracking and sorting out installed software that used to work, but after an update
refuses to work correctly any longer. This is misery at it's worst level.

Currently after latest download fiasco, Office Outlook 2010 would not play ball, which by luck, got sorted out, whilst now, one of my games that has never given me problems whatsoever, will load start screen for 10 seconds then crashes (Heroes over Europe-Ubisoft). I have tried every compatability setting on it that's going.

Where the devil do we keep looking for solutions when Microsoft obviously is not testing thoroughly the updates it puts out and spends most of it's time hiding settings as deep as it can? They have always practiced/ counted upon us to tell them where problems are. Who is supposed to be the blasted experts?

My enjoyment of the computer is at it's lowest level ever as when I switch off at night, I dread switching back on again next day as there is another pile of dross awaiting me.
If only someone had invented a decent alternative system!

As our cousins would say," Have a nice day"

A nice Rant! I hope you got it off your chest.
Microsoft cannot predict what software, games, hardware or other tweaks you will do to their Operating System. So, their updates may not play nice with software you have downloaded or installed. Usually if you go to the software manufacturers support site, they have an update to their software that fixes any issues with Microsoft's update. As for Office, if it stops working for any reason, you can go to Programs and Features, right click Office and choose Change, then Repair. This usually fixes any problems with Office. If you do not update Windows, you become more vulnerable to attacks. Granted, Microsoft hiding personalization tweaks to make it "easier" for us, is annoying but there is always some geek that has figured it out to help us navigate it.

Upgrades (major builds) rather than updates can be a pain in my experience.

As you have Pro, you do have options to take control of your updates starting with
    Observation.-1.jpg

The group policy editor offers further tweaks (also see Winaero's free tweaker which gives another way of setting a couple of the same things perhaps more conveniently) - but I'd now suggest using the editor.

And don't forget active hours to control unexpected restarts (in Settings).

    I found 1703->1709 broke
    - Secureaplus (a security/AV program) which needed uninstalling and reinstalling
    - USB Safely Remove- needed reinstalling
    - Cybereason Ransomfree - needed repair install

Aeroglass inevitably needs uninstalling, as a compatible version is needed.

You can always write your own code for the OS and games in Asm if you wish. There is a reason why they have to be updated and actually required by U.S. and European law to keep the OS updated for potential issues that can break the OS or steal private information from users.

The new Windows 10 regime is indeed poorly implemented.
The OP says that "I have never experienced so many problems as there are with the current salmonella handout from Microsoft."
That may indeed be a rant ... but it's also a fact.
Let's stop making excuses for poor quality.

Rant my a--! Pure statement of facts !! Everyday occurences!

Todays treat? Same download interference from update KB4054517. My sign in details changed. Previously set up to never sign in, no one but I uses the computer. Another problem to sort out when it should not be necessary. Never has been before.

Ongoing and endless. Rubbish. You obviously work for Microsoft without any question!!

I guess I am lucky as I have never had any of the problems the OP is complaining about.

What in the world did you believe that anyone works for Microsoft? You are on a forum that is pro-Microsoft and so far hitting zero. You having issues has zero to do with the product.

    @Mothie
First let me say this accusing Users here by saying they work for MS is just bad form.
Second i do agree with you in every way, and spunks reply, well lets just say everyone is entitled to an opinion.
I made the mistake of doing a clean 1709 install after my PC crashed and would not boot due to the fact my C: drive vanished
So now i have to live with on every reboot 1 of my HD is missing and i have to reboot a couple times for every HD to show, sometimes its my Game HD i then reboot YES Game HD is back BUT now 1 of my Movie HD is missing yea its great fun.
ohh and my start menu, well i have learned to live without it meaning being able to right click it or left click to access my settings or apps.

WinKey R works so have to launch apps that way or use another keyboard shortcut, but my MS RC6 no longer works as it should i have to select most stuff with my mouse first then i can use my RC for a bit.
And i could kick myself in the head for not installing the 1703 first because i have no option to roll back.

So your not alone and accusing members for working for MS just because they have an opinion that does not agree with yours is bad form m8.
And yes when i read spunks reply well its just a rant
And as you i have also started with dos then windows on cotton disc yea i bet no one under 25 years old have ever seen those, i miss my C64 with tapedeck.
With my C64 and tapedeck only one approach worked when loading apps or games DO NOT BREATH AT ALL WHILE THE APP OR GAME IS LOADING
And anyone who owned a tapedeck know i speak the truth if you dared breath or scratch your nose, well you get the idea
