    Playing Xbox one online?

I’ve had an Xbox for a while now. I’ve never had any live or gold membership or whatever they are called. But I am pondering exploring being able to play online. But there are several different things and it’s a tad confusing. I just want to play online should I decide to occasionally. I may get battlefront 2 soon. Not interested in anything other than that. What do I need to ‘upgrade’ my bog standard account to and how much does it cost in £££? Can you do it within the Xbox itself or does it need to be done on pc. Will it have any side effect on the same account that I use on the pc for windows 10? I’m still on the fence a little as I already shell out for PlayStation plus so it’s a bit much to pay more than one but unfortunately our game library over time has got a littl spread out across the two consoles!

I believe you'll need to change from a bog standard account to applying for what's known as Gold membership or Xbox Live - or something of that nature. The only time you can play multiplayer for free with a standard account is over LAN. You can apply within the Xbox UI or on PC. I've no idea what it costs but you can easily look it up. Maybe 3/6/12 months at a time maybe.

Cost can vary upto approx £40/year from MS
Amazon currently have 12 months for £34

Buy Gold Membership, apply code on console or PC, enjoy the multiplayer games

I know you said you dont want any other items, but in case you are not aware, with Gold you get 4 free games every month (some ok, some poor), 2 xbox one games which are your as long as you keep gold, 2 xbox 360 games are yours whether you keep gold or not

Ok thanks guys. Sounds like it's the gold one to look for. I'll boot up the console later and have a look. Seems it's very similar to playstation plus with the monthly games. I reckon that's exactly what I need. I just didn't want something where you have access to a game library for free. I just wouldn't play them.

    Appreciate the comments guys

Cheers guys. I think it must be something to do with all the Black Friday stuff but I signed up for £1 for first month. It was only £5.99 a month thereafter. I didn’t want to go too long to start but I’ll try it out and hopefully keep it
