Using a desktop. The gpu gets to 80c. Haven't noticed cpu though. Tried the game again and same problem. Still froze. Alt tab then it exits without any error notice. Event viewer says same mmc.exe problem. Have yet to change the graphics settings. Could it be the custom theme?

Edit: Also noticed this warning preceding the error a few seconds. "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
what custom theme? I doubt the error is down to management console but something conflicting with it , does your gpu have a factory overclock? have you overclocked it? do you have a custom fan curve? what driver version?

Is the problem you are having only with Witcher 3? That's a Kepler GPU you have and Nvidia stopped paying much attention to them in driver updates long ago. I know - I used to have two of them.

To see if it's the later versions of Nvidia's driver causing the issue, why don't you try a clean install of an older Windows 10 Nvidia driver when Nvidia was still thinking about Kepler GPU's? Maybe something around 352.84 to see if the issue is still there.

Yup only with The Witcher 3. Yeah have read about others using some old driver. Something that focused on GTA V supposedly. I'll search for it again.

My accident, have you even attempted to reinstall the game and it's whatever gaming engine it's running on or game launcher, like Steam?

    Please do that.

I recommend using Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Please select advanced when uninstalling the game and wipe all traces, reboot, download a new copy and see how it runs.

If it's any consolation, I just fired up my GOG copy of W3 and it's running great on max settings at 4K, I average 40 to 50 FPS.

You might be able to register your Steam copy of W3 on GOG (by providing them the CD key/serial #. I remember buying Witcher 2 on Steam long ago, so many issues, half the time it wouldnt launch. I found out I could register my Steam copy on GOG, reinstalled the game, most of the problems went away. I suspect it's because GOG games have no DRM so they run smoother.

If you could somehow do this then at least you might be able to rule out Steam (or not) as being your culprit.

    Good luck!

I turned down all my OC's; memory and core clock. Haven't crashed since.

An update: OC'd my core clock and memory clock at default. No crash in 2 hours of play so far.

Edit: Welp just crashed. Game probably doesn't like any OC whatsoever
