Sr. Citizen On What To Get Grandson ? Thoughts Would Most Appreciated
Hello,
Really glad I noticed this sub-forum.
Am in my 80's now, and would be most grateful for some advice and help.
Wish to get my Grandson something "nice" for his birthday, and thought perhaps an X-Box, Playstation, or Nintendo, might be a good choice.
Showing my age, now, but I know absolutely nothing about any of these. Truly nothing.
So, what do I want to purchase ? Why ?
He will be turning 6.
Is this too young for these kind of things ?
Mommy would make sure, I'm sure, that there would be no violence oriented games; mainly
the auto-racing, and semi-educational type of games, I would imagine.
What are the differences between them ? I guess X-Box, Playstastion, and perhaps Nintendo are the major players
in this type of thing.
What might be suitable for a 6 year old ?
Pros and cons between the brands and particular models/options ?
What would be your specific suggestion ? Why ?
Do they all connect to the TV via a cable ? WiFi ?
Is everything just paid for, and then downloaded via the internet, or you still buy a "game" cartridge
and plug it into the console ?
Anything very brand new expected to be available in the next few weeks, and worth waiting for ?
Would like to limit the cost to about $ 300 max., or so.
Thanks again,
Really appreciate any help,
Bob

My opinion would be to visit a game store like Game Stop and ask all your questions there. Honestly most of the gamers here like myself are playing the kinds of games that you may not want a 6 year old playing.
It really depends on how... liberal you are I guess. There are some games that are just flat out violent, have excessive foul language, immoral adult themes, and/or feature gay characters and promote gay relationships. As we live in an open society where just about anything goes, so goes it in a game environment, often amped up.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm no prude by any stretch of the imagination, in fact I'm rather open minded, but even I as a parent, and now grandparent, I wonder If would I let my 6 year old play some of the games we play here. Only you can answer that.
That said, there are some really nice kid games out there, but (un)fortunately I'm not in that space at this time. Perhaps when my 4 month old grandson turns 6 years old
At any rate, I say again, visit a place like GameStop and ask questions away. If you still have questions after that, come see us.
My two cents.
