Did you buy those parts already?
Cause Nvidia just released there 1070 and 1080 models. You might want to wait a month or so. The gtx 970 or even 980 will become cheaper.
    .
Appreciate the heads up. I wont use xfire or sli. Here's my build so far:

Intel Core i5-6500, MSI GeForce GTX 970, DIYPC P48-BK - Lighter Rig - xlooks Saved Part List - PCPartPicker

You said to wait a month. I'll do that. Right now the Nvidia 970 is going for $300. But how much cheaper will it get? Hope it goes down to $250.

Considering the reference 1070 is supposed to start at around $379 and is supposed to be very much superior to the 970, I would expect a price drop.

Do you know around how much you think the price will drop?

I just don't want to end up waiting a whole month for a price drop of a measly $10 or $20. If it drop $40 or $50 then its worth a month's wait.

You folks must have spent quite a chunk of money in games.
    I know it's addictive.

It ain't cheap that's for sure. But you make it as expensive as you want it to be.
If you buy a desktop for around 800€ you'll have a machine that will give you playable games (+60fps) for at least 3y.
Not on high settings, but you'll enjoy the games. If you devide the 800 by 3 you'll get around 260€ a year.
Devide that by the possible hundreds of hours you'll put in to one or more games, and your hobby-cost per hour is pretty low
    (compaired to some others).
But sure, my 780ti back in the day set me back around 600 € , just for the GPU. So you can make it very expensive indeed, but you really don't have too.

Deep down I would recommend gaming desktop BUT a huge plus point for consoles. GPU driver updates are not required - on PC it seems everytime someone sneezes nvidia release a new driver. AMD not quite as frequent. There is nothing more frustrating than having to do this. And if you read the nvidia forums then you will see countless horror stories associated with gpu driver updates. Whilst on console the games are made to work with the consoles drivers and not the other way around as is the case with the PC.
