deer hunter 5 on windows 10?

i have tried installing my dh5 game from my retail cd on my windows 10 pc but when i click install on the autoplay it does nothing and i have to end the task. i have tried comparability mode and run as admin but still nothing. i have also contacted atari and they said they no longer support the game.

i really want to play this game because i want to play the virtual season mode again and raise my own deer farm from year to year. do you know of any way. other possibilities i thot of are putting xp on another hdd and hooking it up by sata but it would be a pain to have to switch it all the time in the bios when i restart. would an external hdd be something i could try?

You could install XP in a virtual machine perhaps as installing XP to external drive looks quite complicated (see How to install and boot Windows on an external (USB) hard drive).

This tutorial describes installing Windows 10 in VMWare - you could follow it but just install XP instead.

Does the game have securom or safedisc attached to it? In their infinite wisdom MS has disabled secdrv.sys which has stopped a lot of games from running. On a clean install of Windows 10 there is no way round this but if it's been upgraded from 7/8/8.1 then the driver can be re enabled
