I've not noticed any performance hit with the games I play.
My SB i7 and GTX 680 are modest by gaming standards and just hooked up to a 1080p 40" TV no multi screen G sync monitors or multiple dGPU's here but it plays and renders pixels way better than a console and does what I need it to do .
I think the OP is barking up the wrong tree with the page file or VM .. it's infinitesimal compared to what his dGPU ,syst. ram and CPU and v ram frame buffers are doing unless he's using an AMD APU or Intel IGPU HD graphics if that's what he's got he might as well play Candy Crush Soda ☻☻☻
The Nvidia dGPU here has a small translucent AV stat flyout w / a frame counter it stays in the upper left corner you can turn it on or off .
When I first loaded SWBF in Windows 10 I was pushing well over 100fps @1080p for a minute until I turned the settings up
I got psyched for a minute but it's hanging around 60 fps give or take at 1080p ultra in SWBF .
Crew sometimes still micro stutters but it doesn't tear occasionally anymore but nothing wrong ( yet ) in SWBF they got a patch coming out for crew I downloaded but haven't played yet ☻☻
I've disabled pagefile. Modern computers with a fast CPU and 8gb of ram or more should not need it.
In my opinion the page file has no impact on gaming. Whether you have it or not makes no difference. BTW I still have my page file, even though I have 32gig of memory.
The pagefile was designed for older computers back when 512mb was considered enough. Now that 8gb is the current sweet-spot I think most users can safely disable it.
Right on the old PC 512 MB ~ 2 GB ram + page file stuff .......I don't even think about it either way these days aside from the W10 page file implementation with the compressed page file ram casche I just leave it be it might be cool on a 4GB ram configuration when it gets busy though .
Right gaming / CPU pre rendering memory probably isn't happening in the page file anyway these days if u got any ram and if you only have AMD APU or Intel IGPU graphics you might as well just play Candy Crush Soda or something like that or be a console slave ! ☻☻sygnus21 said:
Oh no a beta played worse on an older o.s than a released product that has had proper optimization... well we got a sherlock here...
And Hdd writes are no big deal if v ram is set up right, you put the v ram on less active data drives instead of primary drives as a gaming machine tends to have drives doing nothing whereas the ram being used more for storing stuff has more overall impact upon gaming where as prev versions stored the junk in v ram rather than physical ram.
Win 10's defaults are terrible too, defaulting to having superfetch on which in half the machines out there actually slows things considerably.
But yeah the new memory compression rather than using vram is terrible for a system set up like mine so I'm lookin to turn it off
FWIW the updated SWBF late beta and release were about a week apart so whatever.. but then there is the DX 12 API thing or maybe you never heard of it OTOH I'm not so sure it applies to SWBF anyway ☻
You seem to be stuck in the XP x32 512mb system ram past regarding a page file and the superfetch stuff anyway .........But yeah the new memory compression rather than using vram is terrible for a system set up like mine so I'm looking to turn it off
I quit fooling around with that stuff on XP x 32 and 512MB - 2GB ram FWIW turning off superfetch never did anything good for me in fact it was detrimental in a lof cases when I did it and it wasn't only me .
Earlier we were fooling around with all this stuff back in the day and overclocking Celeron 300A's up past 400 MHz !
Sounds like you been reading FUD on the superfetch and page file as it applies to anything beyond and ancient P4 or Athlon something like that on win xp32 and 512- 2 GB GB Ram ☻.Win 10's defaults are terrible too, defaulting to having superfetch on which in half the machines out there actually slows things considerably.
I think you are confusing vram with the page file virtual memory ....presumably the GPU doesn't use the page file VM that's what V ram is for or no? ....unless U got an AMD APU or Intel IGPU without much V ram or much else beyond playing Candy Crush in which case without a dGPU you would be (much ) better off with a console anyway .
You probably won't see any gain turning the page file or virtual memory off on gaming or anything you got enough ram for most gaming and plenty of other stuff ,the page file aint nothing much gaming wise unless you got something configured wrong too many apps running or more likely some driver issues instead .
But yeah the new memory compression rather than using vram is terrible for a system set up like mine so I'm looking to turn it off
Nothing wrong with your system specs for *some gaming* but you ain't going to be playing SWB @1080P ultra & high settings on that rig at any playable frame rates ......your CPU ( APU ) isn't the greatest gamer out there but it will run it , your dGPU ain't bad but not up to SWBF as well as some of the others .
TBH gaming wise ......You might even be better off with a PS4 ☻☻☻
Sure go ahead and put your page file back on metal only or disable and turn off superfetch either way and then come back and ask someone what's really slowing your gaming down !
