Back to its roots = good. No word about a new game engine in CODWWII. I'm not a doubting Thomas. I'm a doubting specialkone.

After like 10+ years of counter strike, I'm still occasionally playing CS:GO :)
I'm worried about that 2025 date as well, but for me it's because I just might be too old to play games. At least Fallout 4 is more a quiet environment compared to my FPS games. But at my current age, that quietness or non linear advancement is making it difficult for me to get into it.
Yeah, I get that. For me, it's just that there is so much to do. Don't get me wrong, I love games with side quests and collectibles and all that (he says as he plays through AC4 Black Flag for the fifth time), but with Fallout 4 it's just overwhelming sometimes.
Or maybe I just need to avoid Preston and his "another settlement needs our help" BS. lol
I like side missions too, but I try to complete them AFTER the main mission campaign is done. Sometimes they make that tough as you need some of those side mission points/collectibles to more easily complete the main mission.
I think WD2 and GTAV had a good mix of side and main missions. In WD2 I purposely left the option on where an online player could join you. That was fun sometimes but in many cases the online player wasn't there to join a cooperative team side mission, they were there to try and cause havoc. This is why most times I stay away from online, except for some gameplay with a few very long time buddies.
