    Windows 10 gamebar not working

    Hello. I'm having a problem with the Windows 10 Gamebar. it doesn't open, and when I check settings, it's off, but it always switches itself off after I turn it on when I leave that section in the settings. I don't know why it does that, assuming cause Microsoft made it an app now and it was off while they made that change. really hate Microsoft and their bugs. but I use it to record apps mainly to upload content to Youtube. and while I would look for a screen recorder, I need one that can record just an app screen, not my entire desktop and all the screen recording software want your money in some way, like locking full length recordings in a paid version. I don't give my money to those software. so is there a way to fix the gamebar otherwise I'd have to reinstall windows and back up all my data so I don't lose it. the Windows version is 22H2 Build 19045.4046

    I'm not on my Win10 machine right now, but the steps should be the same or similar for both win10/11.

    Follow the guide below to repair or reset Game Bar:

    Step 1: Open the Start menu and go to Settings;

    Step 2: Select Apps and scroll down to locate Xbox Game Bar;

    Step 3: Click on it and choose Advanced options;

    Step 4: Head to the Reset section and tap the Repair or Reset button.

    I tried that but the Gamebar isn't there, the only things close to that are xbox console companion and xbox live which aren't the same app.

    Hello,

    Run a Virus scan.

    Make sure you have Windows fully updated.

    The Xbox Game Bar driver may have got deleted, or became corrupt from a Microsoft Upgrade Bug, third-party software you installed, or a virus, etc.

    Check 'Device Manager' for driver issues. While there click on 'View', then tap 'show hidden drivers'.

    Next, Run sfc/ scannow, if it finds anything and corrects it, run it again until it doesn't find anything else.

    If no problems found there and if Xbox tool bar is still not working, then uninstall Xbox App.

    Go to the Microsoft Store:

    Install Xbox App, the Game Bar will be included with the App.

    Check functionality.

    Also take a look at the different options here in this video for reinstalling XBox Game Bar.

    Unfortunately it didn't. I tried all of those things, still had the problem where it turns itself off after exiting. just decided to reset from Windows, cloud download. although it fixed the problem, added new ones to where it made Windows slow AF and doesn't save my settings so in the end, apparently have a curse where I need to clean install every time to fix a small problem. so still had to back up all my data, and use installation media to reset the hard drive and reinstall windows and debloat it from Microsoft's crap again. thanks for trying to help though.

    Always scan for malware before you make any changes to the system. (You've already done this step)

    What brand and model of computer are you using?

    List any peripherals you have connected to the PC.

    Make sure you have the most current BIOS version installed.

    Check computer manufacturers website for driver updates and installed them. (very important)

    Does your computer have a mechanical drive, or solid-state drive?

    It's possible the storage drive may be failing.

    Are you in an area where lightning could affect your equipment? Power failures can cause file corruption. So, can improper shutdowns.

    Since you say you've already performed a clean install, you should still test your drive or swap it out for a known good one.

    There's also the possibly of third-party software interfering with the normal operation of the OS.

    You might try a clean boot next time the issue arises.

    Go to the MS Store and install the Xbox App.
    You then install the Game Bar and Gaming Services via that App.
    Game Bar is a system component it does not appear in the Settings > Apps list. You will find it in the Start > All Apps.

    "I tried that but the Gamebar isn't there, the only things close to that are xbox console companion and xbox live which aren't the same app."

    Xbox Console and Xbox Console companion are legacy as far as I know, uninstalled those some years ago.

    Game Bar has been an App for at least 10 years starting in Windows 8.

    I have no system mods and it works on both Windows 10 and 11.
    At the time of posting these are the versions listed in Xbox App:
