Why is the game launcher mentioned

My HP laptop has a problem. In the past if I shake the laptop or I lift it then the screen flickers and then the laptop freezes and I have to force shut down. This has been happening randomly for quite some time. I think that something is wrong inside the laptop. I want to take the laptop to a repair shop but I still didn't get the chance to go.

2 weeks ago I closed the laptop lid and I came back an hour later and I found the laptop bottom hot and I opened the laptop lid and I saw that I got synthetic watchdog timeout bsod. I am using hyper-v in the laptop so I can run windows sandbox in hyper-v. hyper-v can cause that bsod and also a hardware issue can cause that bsod.

Just now I was carrying the laptop and I shook it by mistake and I got hypervisor bsod and there was a distorted vertical blue\green line on the screen. I got a minidump file so I analyzed it in windbg and it said this:-

I get that ntkrnlmp.exe caused the bsod but the minidump also said this:-
CUSTOMER_CRASH_COUNT: 1
PROCESS_NAME: CHRONOCROSS_LAUNCHER.exe

This is a launcher for a game and it looks like I forgot it and it was running in the background. Google chrome and steam were also running in the background but they are not mentioned in the minidump file so why is the game launcher mentioned in the minidump file?

Is it because the laptop has a hardware problem which is causing bsod\freezing and the game launcher was using that damaged hardware part and so it crashed because of the bsod and the game launcher didn't cause the bsod?

As I read your post, I thought that this absolutely has to be a hardware issue because there is no way that shaking should be something that would affect software in any way.

However, I then remembered one possibly. I admit that I'm reaching here...

I recall a number of HP laptops have a sensor designed to park the heads on spinning disk media if sudden movement of the laptop is detected. You might try checking device manager to see if you see something called "HP 3D Drive Guard driver". If it is there, try disabling (just for testing), and see if that makes any difference.

I'm fully aware that this is a reach, but it's the only thing that comes to mind for me other than a hardware issue.

Watchdog timeout and the overall context of the issue described will mean that there is a physical issue with the display potentially.

Laptops are vulnerable around the hinge and when they go they become problematic with symptoms like you have described. Hardware in the computer has what is called registers these serve a few purposes.

One purpose is that hardware will use these to report certain states of the hardware and then the driver that is specific to each device will read these to get the status of any given hardware it pertains to.

a watchdog timeout will mean that something stop responding could be software or hardware but in this case i would say the display stop responding and the computer blue screen. Get someone that can repair or at least look at the parts physically or if you feel confident open the PC and look around yourself.

I think the game launcher issue will be unrelated.
