Xbox Game Bar gives error message..

..when I try to click on "record". The error message is below:

Gaming features aren't available on Windows Desktop or File Explorer.

    I have a Windows 10 Gaming PC Version 21H2 (Build 19044.2604)
    Device name DESKTOP-O8OPPPO
Processor AMD Ryzen 3 2200G with Radeon Vega Graphics 3.50 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (14.9 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I want to start recording and found a video about the Win 10 Xbox Game Bar and it looks good enough for me, but I can't figure out why I get this error message, in bold above. I appreciate any help, oh, and I'll put the version I'm running now as well.

I've tried everything here, down to the N version which I don't have, and never heard of:

I think it will be easier to just get a different screen recorder. Any recommends for a Free Version of one?

    Thanks much, Denise

"If you're receiving an error message that says "Gaming features aren't available on Windows Desktop or File Explorer" when trying to use Xbox Game Bar on your Windows 10 PC, it may be because your computer is not configured to allow Game Bar to function properly. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check that Game Bar is enabled. To do this, press Windows key + G to open Game Bar. If it is not enabled, you will see a prompt to enable it. Click on "Yes, this is a game" to enable Game Bar.

Ensure that you have the latest version of Windows 10. Game Bar requires Windows 10 version 1903 or later to function properly. To check your Windows version, press Windows key + R, type "winver", and press Enter.

Verify that your graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause issues with Game Bar. You can update your graphics drivers by visiting the website of your graphics card manufacturer (e.g. NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and downloading the latest drivers.

Check your privacy settings. If Game Bar is not able to access the necessary files or folders, it may not function properly. To check your privacy settings, go to Settings > Privacy > App permissions, and ensure that the toggle switch next to "Documents" is set to On.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to perform a clean installation of Windows 10 or contact Microsoft support for further assistance."

    hope it helps

ps: " perform a clean installation of Windows 10" is a bit over the top , don't listen to the robot lol

Thank you 3nd, I've checked all and it still doesn't work. I went ahead with OBS. It's not "simple" to use but I've found several sites for "how to" that I will learn from. Really appreciate all the input :) Denise

Go to Windows Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar > On.
Captures > Switch On the required options.

Privacy > Background apps > Scroll down to Xbox Game Bar > On.

When you get the Game bar (Windows key + G)

You can then go to the Game bar settings etc.

Though it refers to games you can use it for other screen recordings etc.

    If it is not working.
    Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Xbox Game Bar > Click > Advanced Options > Repair/Reset.

I did all of these and it still didn't work. I'm using another software now so I won't be back for now :)

Ensure Windows 10 is Up to Date: Make sure that your Windows 10 operating system is fully updated to the latest version available. This can help address any compatibility issues and ensure that you have the necessary fixes and improvements.

Check Game Bar Compatibility: Verify that your system meets the requirements for using the Xbox Game Bar. Check the specific hardware and software requirements, as well as any additional prerequisites. It's possible that your system may not meet all the necessary criteria.

Update Graphics Drivers: Update your graphics drivers to the latest version provided by the manufacturer. Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause issues with certain features or applications. Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer (AMD in your case) and download the latest drivers for your specific model.

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter: Windows 10 includes built-in troubleshooting tools, such as the Windows Update troubleshooter. Run this tool to automatically detect and fix any issues related to Windows Update. To access it, go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Update.

Reinstall Xbox Game Bar: If the problem persists, you can try reinstalling the Xbox Game Bar. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. Press Win + X and select "Windows PowerShell (Admin)" from the menu.
    b. In the PowerShell window, type the following command and press Enter: Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage
    c. After the command completes, restart your computer.
    d. Open the Microsoft Store and search for "Xbox Game Bar." Install it from the store and see if the issue is resolved.

Seek Additional Help: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to reach out to Microsoft support or visit the Microsoft Community forums for further assistance. They have dedicated experts and users who can provide more specific guidance tailored to your situation.

Remember to create a backup of any important data before making any significant changes to your system, and always exercise caution when downloading or installing software from third-party sources.

I hope these suggestions help you resolve the error message you're encountering with the Xbox Game Bar. Good luck, and feel free to ask if you have any further question
