    Cannot install Scrabble

I had to repair windows. The process was successful, but I am not able to install the Scrabble Champion Edition. I found a solution that said to ensure compatibility mode is enabled, but the compatibility options end with Windows 8. What happens is that I get a popup message stating "Please insert the original disk instead of a backup". Does anyone out there have a clue as to what has happened? If so is there a fix? I realize that the program is old, but it installs and runs other Windows 10 computers.

The computer is my wife's laptop. She thinks I messed up her computer when I did the repair and iks not talking to me. Can anyone out there rescue me? Windows 10 version 22H2, OS Build 19045, 2364.

Ok, here's the ISO image of the game CD, in case you need it...
Scrabble Champion Edition (2006) : Hasbro Interactive : Internet Archive
If your wife's computer has an optical drive (like a CD/DVD player), you can right click this ISO image and "burn" it to a CD, also.

This game came out in 2006, so you want to choose: Compatibility mode for... Windows XP.
Probably... Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
When you use compatibility mode, you need to choose the "old" version of Windows that the game was written for.

There's also a compatibility troubleshooter, you can try as well.
It's usually on the right click menu of the game's executable file.

OK... I just installed the game, and as you said... it wants a CD. That gives you two choices.
Burn the ISO to a CD and play it that way, or find a no CD patch for the game.

Even with a CD iut might not work... the game uses SecuROM

You’ll have problems with many PC games released on physical CDs and DVDs between the years 2003 and 2008. Many of these games include SafeDisc or SecuROM DRM.

There must have been a patch that allowed the game to play, and when you repaired Windows... it killed the patch.
The easiest thing may be to find who originally installed the game, and acquire the patch.

I can't find any easy way to get that game running.

    More re Scrabble CE

I tried your suggestions without success. Although I can set Compatibility to XP, it doesn't work. The Compatibility Troubleshooter doesn't run. I installed the program without problems on three other Windows 10 computers without a problem. I don't ever recall a patch. Before the Windows repair I had re-installed the program at least three times (after crashes) without a problem. I also tried making an ISO disc as you suggested. Didn't matter. I appreciate your effort. Get back to me if you have any other bright ideas.

I can't find anyway to "run" the game on Windows 10. I could install it easily.
The problem, as mentioned in the error message is "SecuROM" an old DRM scheme.

Which version did you have initially? There are a few different years it was released.
There are even versions that can be played in the browser (no install needed).

Doesn't sound like much fun without other people playing, lol.

Hi, just wondering... how did you "repair windows"? - What was the problem?
    The Compatibility Troubleshooter doesn't run.
    - what indication do you see that shows you it doesn't run?

The Windows repair is included with Windows in the Control Panel under "Reset this PC". When I press thge Compatibilty Troubleshooter button, nothing happens.

You "may" have a compatibility issue, but you absolutely have a SecuROM issue.
Until you solve the SecuROM issue... nothing else matters.

Even the error message you get, tells you that. I got the same message on my computer.
I play MANY old games on Win 10 and Win 11. I'm pretty good at getting them to work.

You need a patch that will deal with the SecuROM problem.
I don't think the game was popular enough, for someone to go to the trouble to make a patch.
At least not a safe one.

There are plenty of other Scrabble games... even quite a few with online play against real people.
Would your wife be satisfied with something like that?

I see what you mean. I tried mounting the ISO in a virtual CD drive. The game installed OK in Windows 11 but when I tried to run it I got the error below. You need either an original CD or a NO-CD crack. I looked but couldn't find a crack for this game.
