Lego Harry Potter Game Fails To Load

Installed on my PC is "Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4", a CD-ROM game that requires the disc in order to run. The game was released in 2010, on the cover though it looks like this copy was released in 2012 and was designed to run on Windows XP/Vista/7. Its a basic game that only requires a very small amount of the computers power. I haven't played the game in over a year, but the last time I played it everything worked fine. But today when I load the game I can hear the disc being read, the screen goes blank for a few seconds, then it just returns to the desktop, strangely the LED light on my monitor disappears briefly before returning to the desktop. Although it worked fine before I've tried running it in compatibility mode, and have changed a few other settings, but nothing seems to work. Any have any ideas what might be causing the game to not run? Any help is much appreciated.

I've had a look at the attached link. It mentions changing sound settings, although I'm not sure why that would be the cause. But I had a look through it and it says the setting should be no more than 24 bit 48000Hz, but looking at my sound settings that is already what mine is set at. The only other thing it mentions is uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but I only want to do that as a last option as I would of course lose all my game data. The game used to work without any trouble and I can't think what might have changed within that time.

I tried a few things in the link posted above, but nothing seemed to work. So the only option left was to uninstall and reinstall, luckily when I chose to uninstall it gave me the option to keep the game data, after I clicked that I assumed the game uninstalled as no uninstall wizard presented itself, all that remained was a desktop icon. I then installed the game and the game loaded fine and I started to play from where I left off previously, I quit the game and relaunched it to make sure it worked, but the same problem as before happened again.
I then realised when I installed the game I launched it through the box as pictured below, if I click the Desktop icon that's when the game won't load, so I went into "This PC" and clicked the DVD drive and the menu I needed appeared, and when I click "Play" the game will then load. Had I have done this first time round I wouldn't have needed to reinstall the game, I have no idea why it will only work this way but at least I managed to find a way round it. Thanks to all that has offered me advice.
